This happened to me in september last year.

Well let me share my expeience with you guys ! I suggest any of you or even if you know anyone looking to buy one of these cars take my experience with this certain dealer and use it as a 'major' decision making factor 'not' to do business with this certain dealer...... Here we go!

Basically to cut a long story short on a tuesday afternoon (12/09/06) signed the contract and left a deposit to purchase an IS200 Lexus from these guys they knew I would be out of town all weekend and that the deal would be settled within the week (week ending 22/09/06) up untill saturday the 16th of sep I was happy with how everything was going and the particular salesman was top notch to say the least! However as I am doing some shopping on saturday with my wife I recieve a phone call from the manager asking "do you still want to go ahead with this deal?" I explained to him that I said you guys knew all along I was out of town till monday night and that I will be picking the car up during the week coming! Now he really puts the pressure on me demanding that I give him more of a deposit cos I am taking too long! WTF I am baffled at this stage It's just been 3 days and you guys can't wait? I am in Melbourne to start with and secondly had you needed more of a deposit at the time you should have requested it and not accepted anything less we both signed that contract! He then goes on to tell me "I have customers here right now willing to pay 'cash' for the car and it's a better deal for me to take" Now I am 'burning' I have a contract signed and a deposit down.... that car is as good as 'sold' what the f*ck would anyone be looking at it to start with? Well it seems as though to this dealer a 'legal contract' means sh*t ?
In the long run I told it to him how it was and he can shove his car in the appropriate place I am not interested in doing business with a company like this and give me the deposit back! What they done to me is wrong on so many levels- Legally its wrong, morally its wrong and for their reputation its wrong! I wanted to share this with you's and hopefully from my experience with them 'steer clear' of Lexus of sutherland, do not do any business with lexus of sutherland!

end of rant

has anyone else had a "car dealer" do this to them?

Kurt

BTW that car sat in their yard for a further 2-3 weeks at least.....

They deserved everything they got!!

You could tell him to stuff off (and slam the phone down) then go and pick the car up as per your contract. Although, like you, I'd worry about the aftersales service.

I hope you emailed the CEO and sent this link as well!

I know I could of persued it and got the car... but at the end of the day I CBF'd I did not want to give them the pleasure of getting my $$$ rather give it elsewhere and I did that..... You'd think you try to support a local business and all that but the truth is all car dealers are Vomit! Even had hassles when I got my one but sorted those out... Like real estate agents I have no faith in these buggers...

Considering how much Lexus covet their reputation, i am sure head office would like to hear about this. Sadly, you seem to only get the champagne service when you are purchasing a new car.

I did have a similar story, although it was a Mini only worth $2000.

Went in on the Saturday, looked it over, went for a test drive and said it needed work and I'd be back in Monday to buy it (no deposit put down and nothing in writing though). Come in Monday and the guy says it sold Monday morning because "the other salesman didn't know it was on hold".

I can see how that happened but it made me VERY grumpy for a few days.

Not in the same league as yours, but I do enjoy a good rant :-)

Lexus of Brisbane is different.

I bought my '99 model IS200 from there in 2004 (a 5 year old car!!) and received top notch customer service. It was covered under warrenty until 2007 and during that time, I received nothing but great customer service..

Earlier this year i started looking at IS250's and was considering new. A salesman in the Valley showroom put a lot of pressure on me, was constantly bugging me and lied about the benefits you get in a new car vs a 2nd hand car still under new car warrenty. For those interested, you still get all the same benefits inclduing Encore!!! In the end, i went back to Lexus of Brisbane and bought a 2nd hand IS250, again, i have gotten great service depsite the salesman from the valley hanging up on me when i told him :)

See thats the thing... As you have pointed out good service brings people back....my family buys alot of cars and the old man is quite fond of these cars....and they turn cars around every couple of years.. so its only a matter of time before they will be in the market for one.. and there you go.. thats another customer this particular dealership will be missing out on... oh well it was their choice.
