I just purchased a TRD short shifter for my altezza even for a very time consuming hesitant buyer like myself LOL Ken is very good. Patient, and reasonable pricing thanks to the NZ doller aswell.

I recently had a transaction with Ken from Kinway, whilst I eventually received my product that I bought the transaction was less than favourable. In summary

- Tried to charge me a exchange rate of 75us cents to the dollar whilst at the current time it was 92 cents
- Charged me more than his website claiming it was the "old" price
- Charged me an extra paypal fee which in another email to Reggie, he claimed the prices on his site includes the paypal fee already

Below is the email conversation between Ken and I, read from the bottom up if you are interested

There is a paypal request but it is for the tailights AND the duracon shift knob. I now ONLY want the TAILIGHTS which, which we agreed on the price of 270.40 instead of the 317.80 charged on my paypal account.
With all this stuffing around I want to ask if you actually want to do business here, I can easily take my business (as well as the Altezza Club of Australia's business) elsewhere.

I ordered my TRD sway bars from Kinway before.
My thoughts:

Pros:
-good prices on TRD products
-Polite

Cons:
-response to emails can take up to 1 week
-Not able to give shipping quote on certain heavier products -e.g I was enquiring about TRD coilovers. Basically told that I need to buy the product first and when they get the suspension, only then will they be able to let me know shipping cost
-does not offer much support/information in the period between paying and waiting for product to arrive at door step.

Also would be great if Ken would offer altezzaclub members a small discount. This is not a con but is his choice, just saying it would be nice and could potentially be good business for him too from us.

I got my OEM smoked lights from Sewell Lexus in the USA, cost me US$170 plus about US$50 shipping. Received them about 5 business days after payment. Check this item number 150139458340 on Ebay for details.

Thunderbird2 - November 20, 2007 06:46 AM (GMT)
I recently experience similar excessive delays with an order of JDM taillights which took a number of weeks to come through. Since the order was orignally changed from 2 sets to 3 sets, we are fairly certain that Ken simply forgot to ship the 3rd set, and the shipping manifest certainly indicates this. However, after a great deal of communication and failed attempts to obtain a shipping/tracking number, Ken insisted that he had sent the 3rd set, that they must have gotten 'lost' in the post, and he sent a 3rd set at his own cost. I'm sure he simply forgot to send these in the first place, and had he owned up to this in the first place, there would have been no hard feelings. However the way Ken treated the transaction, trying to lay blame on the buyer for being impatient or the shipping, is not acceptable. I'm quite prepared to wait longer for products which are competitively priced, but the communication during the transaction needs to be far better than this.

Ken, please accept the criticism being provided here, and make efforts to improve your service, or the club will have no choice but to stop recommending you as a supplier.

Brian,

I dont know why you posted this up since I had nothing to hide in our transaction. If you thought our price was expensive, then you can cancel the order anytime with me since i never asked you to pay until we made everything clear for your order. Why didnt you ask me any questions before you paid for the order and now it looks like I have something to hide which is not true

For the exchage rate, I charged you with paypal's rate
For our price, I told you about it before you paid and if you check our terms and conditions (Prices of all merchandise do not include shipping or handling charges. All prices are subject to change without notice. )
For the paypal fee, all special offer does not include Paypal fee. If you buy from other shops, I do not think their prices will include paypal fees anyways.

Once again, I didnt hide anything in this transaction. You paid for the order when we both agreed the transaction.

Cheers,

Ken

We dont want to charge you the shipping fee if the item is oversized because we dont want to overcharge you on any shipping. 99% of shops will overcharge you on the shipping but we dont want it and we only want to charge you the actual shipping fee, so that is why we never quoted for the shipping fee for the oversized item which we do not know the actual size until we receive it (for ex, body kit parts, suspension kit)

Regarding our prices, we are offering the best I can already and as you can see the currency rate, AUD or NZ are going strong in these weeks and we still offer the same price in USD for you. If you do the math on www.xe.com . You will see how much saving you are having from Kinway and how much losing on profit we are having

greeneyes - December 23, 2007 12:46 AM (GMT)
OK- Ken asked me to look at this, as he feels he is being hard done by-

So, it appears Brian and Ken had not really sorted out the actual order and the total cost before the transaction was underway.

Business 101 states "have a written quote itemising all costs and clearly showing the total before proceeding"

It looks like Ken missed changes in the order and Brian didn't catch the tricky path of international financial movements through paypal. ...and I never read the "terms & conditions"!!

From the other member's emails it seems like Kinway is run like any other small import/export business, running hard to stay in the same spot! They will deliver the same goods at much lower prices than your local Lexus dealer, but it will be a lot more difficult than standing at the counter with the part in your hand.

I can't see that Ken has actually wronged anyone, but if you are dealing with anyone over the internet via emails, make sure the contract is crystal-clear!

bochup - December 28, 2007 01:18 PM (GMT)
Just want to add that I myself had a positive experience with Ken when I bought my JDM dark tail-lights from him 2 months ago.

At first I was also abit surprised by the paypal additional fee but once this was explained to me I was fine with it. Perhaps this information can be added to the "Terms and Conditions" section on the website, Ken?

I also didn't seem to have the communication breakdowns others on this forum seem to have experienced. The package also arrived within 2 weeks.

It seems that most of the complaints stem from amended orders which I would imagine is hard to do in an import/export environment. Especially when Ken isn't even in the same country as both the supplier and customer.

If you were to amend an order from Amazon or some big company I wonder how easy it would be to amend the order and how long it'll take to deal with their 'customer representatives'. Also I'm sure you'll be hit with some fee or additional shipping costs.

I guess if people want to leverage off the cheap prices and flexibility of ordering through Ken then they have to make sure that everyone is on the same page.

RE99IE - December 28, 2007 02:35 PM (GMT)
Ken was very prompt on some of the emails I've sent to him which is a positive, prices are quite good as well and I agree changing an order can be very problematic but as part of the agreement, Ken is to provide a tracking number for the orders which so far have not found one person receive such number. I have asked numerous times during the two months we waited for the missing set of JDM taillights.

greeneyes - December 28, 2007 11:09 PM (GMT)
They were a bit ill-fated! :(

So, ordering new ones through Ken again?? :D

IS400 - January 29, 2008 08:48 AM (GMT)
I am posting this by request of a couple of the mods/admin this is a copy of a PM from late last year.....

I could not help but notice Brian's post on Kinway motorsports..

I am indirectly having some issues with them too.... big time.. A customer/mate of ours ordered a TRD LSD unit for a JZA80 Supra back in July/August.. initially the money was transfered and weeks later after waiting my customer emails him.. he replies back saying that he was short some fees?? WTF he says?? Anyhow he gets that sorted within that week or so.... Now he has just waited and waited and waited and waited..... Tracking info?? Well He asked him 3 times before getting one and even now 3 weeks after getting it it comes up as invalid.... We are now in Late November almost december... He is still without the parts required to carry out his job.... I'm stuck with over $1000 in genuine parts that I ordered for him (he is more than happy to pay me for them but I told him to hold back) ...... I want to pursue this matter with Ken on behalf of my customer as 4-5 months later.. well its beyond the joke and eveyone is getting to boiling point!! I don't believe this is the kind of sponsor we need on this forum.. The car is entered for supernats in 2 weeks time and I don't think its gonna happen!!! This sounds like a few other peoples experiences with Kinway motorsport...

About a week or so after posting this the part turned up and we got the Job done...this above mentioned experience is however not right and it was requested that I post this for the rest of the community.

I'm done

I cant go giving away details...publicly.. but really I''m sure you dont sell TRD LSD units for JZA80 6 speeds all the time.... When someones car is off the road for months on end and $$ is not an issue... they have no reason to make lies.... there is simply nothing to gain!

Also, If you are not willing to tell the details in public then you can pm me the details directly since I have the right to know what is going on because you posted this thread for complaining our company. Also, we do sell TRD LSD units for JZA80 Supra 6SPD every single week but TRD always dont have enough for us. They dont keep the parts in stock at all if the car model has been discontinued for over 3 years. JZA80 Supra is discontinued in 2002 Summer

Tried to contact him in the past many times, and when he was still "alive", I got the "will get back to you" reply many times...

Never handed any money over to him though
