Title: Is250...
Description: Not something you see everyday
SfS - November 2, 2007 07:16 AM (GMT)
Most of the stuff we took out of the car...

Covering it up so we don't drop nothing down there...

Timing chain removed...

The head and the hydraulic lifters...

The bitch we had to replace, the VVT-i assembly

P.s sorry for the massive pics lol.

so what's the problem with engine? sign and symptom? VVTi not working?
I am interested to find out.. :P
SfS - November 2, 2007 11:08 AM (GMT)
Yep VVTi was making a clicking noise on start-up when it was cold.
ONLY when it was cold though, it wouldn't do it after it warmed up. Customer complained we had to fix it.
Problem is this might be a big problem, and this engines are an absolute BITCH to work on.
Took us just over 2 days to do it, I left and he still had to test drive it to make sure it was all sweet.
Sydney City Lexus or Chatswood, one of the two had one of these, but didn't re-seal the timing cover well enough/properly and had an oil leak so now its our problem.
The mech I was working with reckons the hydraulic lifters are going to be a problem when they get on in years, and that they should of stayed with the old design.
Thing is when all this stuff will be old i'll be in my prime so i'll be fixing it all, experience here I come :P

I'm confused, what's the issue?
SfS - November 3, 2007 09:10 PM (GMT)
Ok, on start up and only while it was cold ( e.g. the noise disappearing after a while ) the VVT-i would make sort of a clicking noise...

Title says IS250, engine looks like the one from an IS250 but it might be a Commodore or something similar.

I know it says that but this thread does not make any sense to me, SfS do you have an is250? is this engine yours?, you were complaining about "Yep VVTi was making a clicking noise on start-up when it was cold." i assume you mean your engine does that and you have ripped it apart to fix it ????

SFS works as an apprentice mechanic at Nth Parra Lexus dealership.
I doubt they would service a commodore ART :P

What DR-JEKL said, IS250 at work, customers car, pulled it apart, fixed it bigass job, one of the master techs told me to take some photos because I probably won't be seeing the inside/engine of an IS250 for bout 5 years until they start clocking up alot of km's.
Sorry to all who didn't know wtf I was on about :).
