cpufix - November 4, 2007 07:28 AM (GMT)
I currently have in stock repaired Factory Head units (had Err 3) for sale and can provide a repair service for units, with this error.

Can either repair your unit for you or provide a Forward Exchange service, NZ only.

Forward exchange service well have a fee for repair, cost of freight and a deposit that would be refunded once your faulty unit is received.

Warranty on repair is three months and is limited to Err 3 problem.

I'll post prices shortly.

PM me if you require more detail.

What causes the problem Colin, something mechanical or some electronic thing?

cpufix - November 4, 2007 06:15 PM (GMT)
Hi Keith same as you mentioned in earlier topics,
the shafts that move the CD's up and down can jump out of their bottom support hole.

After looking at this I suspect it is actually a design feature to prevent major damage should something jam, very clever man design these to keep people in work.

Appears that if something is under the CD stack or jammed in the stack on its way down the mech continues to drive and the shaft/s continues to move vertically, this disengages the gear drive on the jammed side, but also the shaft pops out of the bottom.

The next problem is when an inexperienced person reassembles the unit they break a switch lever. This switch is used to detect that the front mech is open ready to have a CD ejected.

Another problem is damage to the actual CD stacker's I suspect this may be caused by human attempts to get jammed CD's out.

After correct reassembly I can load the six CD's, jump around the stack and eject as required.

keen on knowing prices :) would you be able to provide GST reciepts etc? I have a friend who owns an autoelectrician's; I'll let him know the pricing and perhaps if the price is right (and they have customers wanting to have it fixed) he can get you to do em. I dont know if there's many he gets done; but at least it'd be an option.

There's a place in Auckland called "Max Electronics" who also do all types of car stereo repair, maybe I could enquire prices and let u know (via pm) what to expect for competitive pricing in AKL. :)

while on topic of factory head units, does the IS200s deck play burnt CDs? just doesn't do MP3s?

thanks :D

cpufix - November 6, 2007 07:56 AM (GMT)
You should be able to play burnt CD's, I have several times.

I have seen recommendations not to play burnt CD's as it is felt these cause the Err 3 problem.

hmmm I've played burnt CDs in mine fine for quite a while now (since I got it early this year) and no problems...yet.

I havent had a chance to call max electronics yet, just had an exam today so yeah.

Also it might be wise to list up the part number of the headunits you're selling? IIRC there's two variants isnt there :)

cpufix - November 6, 2007 05:57 PM (GMT)
HI DC

Thanks for your comments, I agree there are two models, however I feel the unit listed is identified correctly both on words and by pictures.

cpufix, did you settle on a price for fixing an Err3 cd changer?

Anyone got instructions one how to get it out so I can send it to cpufix? As detailed as possible instructions at a level for a not-very-handy-person much appreciated.

Pull out the littl tray under the head unit. (It comes out with a firm pull) Take out the top tray/satnav screen (2 screws and another firm pull). Once they are out you'll see 2 10mm bolts top and bottom. Undo them and the HU and air con controls will just lift out. The it's just a matter of taking out the screws that hold them all together. Takes about 15 minutes once you figure out where the screws are.
