Title: Traction Control

toby - August 6, 2008 10:12 PM (GMT)
Hi,

My Altezza Rs200z auto does not have a traction contol button on the console. I'm not sure if traction controll is installed or not but I'd like to know and bypass it if it has. . When I lose traction and 'apply power' the engine seems to cut back power a lot. feels like either ignition or fuel cut out.
I've a full tank of gas.
Is there a fuse i should look for and check or similar . . .

Cheers
Pete

park half on grass/gravel and half on normal road, plant foor, TC light on dash(lower left on mine) should flash, that'll let you know if you have it or not, but being an RS, it should.

If you are going to disable it, remove it aswell, it's not that light. and weight savings are alwasy good.

hahaha, thats what I get for having too many forums open at once...

Not that anyone will care, but, I was referring to hydrolic landing gear on a wanky model plane.

I don't think the auto can switch it off. And I don't think personally disabling it will be easy

Its switchable in the auto's if you have it. It seems that most Z edition autos dont have TRAC, must be more common on the L edition ones.

Also if you turn the ignition to on and dont start the car you should see a little amber coloured light that shows a sliding car below and to the left of your tacho.

It could be possible to wire a switch that does the same thing as the TRC off button on Manuals and AS200/IS200's. Traction Control appears to be part of the TRC computer rather than the ECT which controls the Automatic and Snow/PWR modes. So should be similar accross all models AS200/RS200/IS200 if they use the same TRC module.

when i got my tez imported from japan i noticed that pressing the TRC Off button didnt seem to do anything. i figured at least the light would come up on the guage cluster. after further inspection i noticed the fuse was pulled from the fuse box and the light bulb removed from the guage cluster. simple way to have it off permanently. or you can pull the fuse and see if the TRC Off light blinks on the dash. at least then you'll know it's not something wrong with it. although if you dont have the TRC Off button you may not have had the light on the dash either i dunno.

Lexus IS Has Secret Cheat Code that Enables Massive Peel-Outs
By Alice Hill
RealTechNews

This makes sense when you think about it. Cars have computers and computers have always had hidden Easter eggs and cheat codes, so it was inevitable that someone would find a cheat code hidden inside a car. Case in point: here’s way to disable the traction/skid control systems called VDIM on the Lexus IS:

“start the car with the parking brake on ….then foot brake twice….(keep the foot brake down)….then parking brake twice (keep it down )and repeat till skid light is on the dash…..it will reset when you restart the car”

where is the fuse located for this? is it in the cabin or in the engine bay? also what is it named?

Just going a bit off subject but does anyone know what the snow button does? Obviously for use in snow but I mean the Traction Control limits the revs so your wheels stop spinning. What effect does the snow button have on the car? What does it make the car do?

Robo - November 1, 2009 01:05 AM (GMT)
Makes the car drive like a nana. Slows accelearation, which also happens to enhance fuel economy as well.

alimac - November 1, 2009 01:45 AM (GMT)
What Robo said. It limits the responsiveness of the electronic Throttle. I played around with it a hile back and found tha if I turned it on at 100km/h, the speed dropped back to around 95. I wonder if it doesn't also increase teh sensitivity of the traction controll as well, but haven't really tried to test it out. I tend to use the the Bighorn when we get snow.

Would have made a nice pic if it wasnt dug into the sand. ^_^

Snow mode just smoothens out sharp changes in throttle response that would be more likely to break traction, it also reduces the amount of throttle input, so WOT would really only be about 80% of Full Throttle, hence the speed dropping slightly to 95km's
