Description: any ideas

The car is a little slagish off the mark there is like a 2 second delay from flooring it to pickup is there anything that can be done to speed this up.

You could try doing a fluid flush and getting some nice rose coloured oil back in there, otherwise your stuck with manual gear selection, when know you need power just drop it a gear or so, saves it trying to find the right gear all the time.

nosrab - August 8, 2008 12:37 PM (GMT)
Its got plenty of power once its moving its just the couple of seconds where nothing happens when i floor it in take off

lonestar - August 8, 2008 10:53 PM (GMT)
Mine is exactly the same dude, i have a rs200 qualitat version.
there are others out there who experience the same sluggish behaviour and ive posted about it and haven't received much advice except get a manual lol..

If you do find a solution... please let me and everyone else know.

Leiden - August 9, 2008 12:08 AM (GMT)
You could try the usual (probably have) MAF clean,

Thats weird though, when I had the RS200 5AT it was pretty good from take off, floor it, wheels spin like crazy and your hitting 100 pretty soon. It had about 105,000km's on it.

The only thing I noticed was the lag when your in 5th and you floor it and it drops to 4th then to 3rd and finally starts picking up.

lonestar - August 9, 2008 01:58 AM (GMT)
Done the MAF clean. Made no difference. Changed the oil, no difference.

My other 5AT RS200 had no problems to it, just this one does

Leiden - August 9, 2008 03:53 AM (GMT)
Could possibly be a dying shift solenoid?

slacker - August 9, 2008 06:14 AM (GMT)
Just a thought, with the adaptive gearbox learning your driving style maybe its doing slow changes for the style of driving its had, what about fanging it round for a while and see what happens. Just my two cents.

lonestar - August 9, 2008 06:31 AM (GMT)
ive tried resetting the ecu, ive tried thrashing it, ive tried being gentle gentle with it.

nosrab - August 9, 2008 08:15 AM (GMT)
Ya ive done all of that to, my auto sparky said he could adjust it if i had a e-manage ultimate that computer allows him to set the clutch and all that stuff for quicker responce.

Noel - August 10, 2008 12:45 AM (GMT)
Is it still slow if you put it in first gear (L1) using the stick and floor it?

Have you changed the wheels? mine seems slower since i put on wider tyres, no wheel spin anymore but loads of grip...

nosrab - August 10, 2008 07:28 AM (GMT)
Tried that to still no good

Leiden - August 10, 2008 08:57 AM (GMT)
How about if you floor it, it starts accelerating off, slow back down to nana spec keeping it in same gear, and boot it again, does it pull hard or the same lag?

If you floor it, it laggs like stutters goes nana speed then about 2-3 seconds later shoots off like a rocket.

Have pumped it yet will test that out tomorrow.

have you a standard airbox or a Pod?

nosrab - August 10, 2008 07:57 PM (GMT)
if the car is moving its not a problem its just the takeoff, there is to much of a delay to try and take that gap when pulling out in traffic

Leiden - August 11, 2008 12:16 AM (GMT)
Sounds to me like it could be a shift solenoid, if the cars moving its already in the selected gear, but when its stationary it has to engage the gear before taking off, that could be taking a little while,

Are you sure its actually in 1st? What speed does it redline at in the questionable gear?

Otherwise, you can try and find the stall point, hold foot on the brake and floor the accelerator, find out what revs the needle stops on, if its too low your motor could struggle to reach a decent rpm before puiing power to the wheels, if its too high then your torque converter is slipping and could need an oil change.

xnickx - August 11, 2008 01:16 AM (GMT)
There are 2 shift solenoids in the ATM, and they are getting to be a more and more common problem

Not cheap though, hope you have warranty?

Normally solenoid 2 (top box)

mines on a unlimited km mechanical warranty ... would this cover it?

how would i check to see if its the solenoid or not??

Leiden - August 11, 2008 10:14 PM (GMT)
They should do it, basically it means if anything goes wrong mechanically they will be obligated to fix it. Usually its 100,000km's or 3 years but looks like you've got an unlimited km's warranty.

lonestar - August 12, 2008 11:13 AM (GMT)
champion so just rock on up to toyota and ask them to check the shift solenoid then?

Leiden - August 12, 2008 11:46 AM (GMT)
Yea hopefully, they'll have a little yellow box thing that they will plug into the diagnostics port and download a bunch of information, hopefully if the ECT has stored a fault code something should pop up then they'll have to fix it,

Otherwise you may have a hard time convincing them, if so just get a mechanic to take it for a spin, hopefully it wont be fine...

Murpheys law dictates... <_<

xnickx - August 12, 2008 10:29 PM (GMT)
Sorry my mistake they are the ones here in the red box.

About $990+gst ex Japan eh!

Done about 3 already this week, generally the one on the left.

Located in the valve body of the transmission

Leiden - August 12, 2008 11:35 PM (GMT)
Wow, for that you could probably convert it to manual...

W5X Gearbox $450
3Y Bellhousing/Fork/Slave $50
Clutch/Brake Pedal Box $50

Then just the clutch and driveshaft but shouldnt be too expensive even then...

It's a turbo

krayzie1 - October 9, 2008 12:26 AM (GMT)
Im having the same issue with it lagging on acceleration.

Ill have to book it in with toyota for a service.

s4turn - October 9, 2008 01:19 AM (GMT)
I cant remember what Solenoid died on my car, but it was around $1000 inc GST and labour to get it fixed...

apparently they are expensive as Toyota still have the rights to the design? as I was told, so you can only buy genuine ones

if you do have to pay for a new solenoid, make sure you ring Manukau Toyota spares? they still give the altezza club a discount, and I think from memory the part from there was going to cost around $570+ GST but I had to wait so many weeks for it to arrive from Japan

lol speaking of the speed, id love to speed my car up a little :D

xero - October 20, 2008 09:28 AM (GMT)
Easy, just don't 'floor' it... I find mines quicker when its at about 80% throttle to start...

I think your gearbox is wearing out dude... I guess it would happen with the extra power

RS200 Z - October 21, 2008 08:25 AM (GMT)
I had a similar issue and $800 dollars later with a new air flow sensor it was fixed...

YES! ive found this thread.

I got this problem sorted out now... it was loose fittings in the hoses, and a new air flow meter was needed, all under warranty for me so it didnt cost me a thing and OMG it runs sooooo good now

nosrab - October 22, 2008 10:02 AM (GMT)
what hoses were loose

JIMKRAZTEZA - August 2, 2009 03:29 PM (GMT)
Hey guys i think i may have a problem!!

after having another chance to drive an altezza tiptronic last night the same as mine... i had a wee play with the tiptronic and it went down to 2 ... my one only goes down to 2 when it feels like it ..other wise it stays at 3 but after learning that its not the best idea to drive at tiptronic all the time ive stopped it now..

am i in big trouble?

MEEAOW - August 3, 2009 05:48 AM (GMT)
car has to be warm before it will go to 2, otherwise only lets you go to 3

is there any way of being able to select 1st gear through the paddle buttons on the steering wheel? maybe modifying the computer?
