Yeah doing the same to mine soon.

Never done the trans fluid myself but have helped in a Cefiro before, steps still similar?
- Drain oil from the drain plug (bottom one)
- Fill with grease gun from the the filler plug?

Need to change my clutch fluid too, getting a bit mucky LOL

Probably going to do my gearbox this weekend - just want to confirm the procedure.

I had a look and there's a wee brass-looking plug on the bottom, and one the same on the side. I assume this are the drain and fill plugs?

And to fill it, Nick, you said a grease gun. Do you mean something like the pic on http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Grease_gun_(tool)? Where am I best to get one of these - just Repco/SCA?

Anything else I should be doing at the same time?

Theres a big hex nut (like 24mm) on the bottom passangers side of the gearbox which is the drain, and another on the drivers side mid way up which is the filler.

Open the filler, and then the drain, the fluid will come out a bit quicker that way. The 1LTR bottles I've used in the past have a 10cm piece of hose that pulls out the top of the bottle, that way you can poke the hose into the filler and elevate the bottle above the hole so gravity does the work, might need to squeeze it a bit theres not much room to fully elevate the bottle.

Keep filling until it starts to come out the filler hole, on level ground thats nice and topped up :)

Takes about 2 bottles from memory..

Suction Gun is what you're after http://0168a51.netsolhost.com/index.cfm?Ma...s&ProductID=255 Just fill & squirt...
Most parts shops will sell the groz brand. I know repco/appco do

You can also use a transfer gun if space is at a premium http://0168a51.netsolhost.com/index.cfm?Ma...s&ProductID=256

Suction gun would be a little overkill for an oil change that only happens like hardly ever?

Thanks Leiden - sounds like I was looking in the right place.

Will pop down to Repco tomorrow and see what I can find. Guess I should buy a crescent too - using gooseneck pliers is probably a bad idea.

Might leave the change until Saturday, so if I have to do a mission to Repco for extra stuff I can - don't want to be stuck halfway out of the garage all night.

Are you using Castrol VMX?

QUOTE (Leiden @ Apr 7 2009, 10:30 PM)
Are you using Castrol VMX?

Is that a recommendation? Still don't have anything, was just going to go and find whatever was most expensive without being silly :P

Thats what I used, there's of course Redline and probably Valvoline but for some reason I like Castrol... all they do is make oil, so they must be good at it right?

Make sure its GL4 spec (I think) not GL5, has something to do with GL5 not having the right additives and destroying our syncros.

GL4 M/T Oils:

Castrol VMX
Valvoline DuraGear 75W-85 GL-4
Penrite Sin 75W-85 GL-4 (Actually recommended for our Aisin 6 Speeds)
Red Line MTL 75W-80 GL-4
Red Line MT-90 75W-90 GL-4
Pennzoil Gearplus 80W-90 GL-4

So basically make sure it says GL-4 on the bottle, otherwise dont get it.
