Title: Speedo Reading
Description: False speedo when changing final drive

nutezza - November 17, 2008 07:48 AM (GMT)
I am planning to change my final drive on my RS200 6MT, however the speedo will not read correctly, I was made to understand you have to change the speedo signal from the gearbox to the ABS, have anyone done this already or have a wiring diagram as to how its done?

Thanks
Dave.

You can either change the nylon gears on the drive of the speed sensor and on the output shaft of the gearbox, or you can get a speedo corrector kit from Jaycar which adjust the number of pulses going from the speed sensor to the instrument cluster (it has nothing to do with the ABS on a manual).

Which way are you going Dave?

I assume the speedo over-reads slightly, so when it shows 115kph we are doing about 110. So if you go from 4.1 down to 3.9 it will make it more accurate.

If you go from 4.1 up to 4.4 it will over-read more to say 120kph when you're doing 110.

I haven't seen any measured km over here, otherwise I'd check it with a stopwatch. Easy enough in places like around Matamata which have labelled posts at the side of the road. (with a green stripe)

At 100kph a km takes 36seconds.

I am changing from 4:3 to 4:7 final drive
