I did read somewhere that for the Lexus IS300 lexus developed a special grade of ATS fluid. From what I understand the IS300 has a similiar ATS to the Z edition altezza?

Either way just go with genuine toyota fluid mate :)

Yup thats right, Toyota Genuine Type T4 (aka T-IV)

Says it on the ATF dipstick.

Part number:
08886-81015

Be sure to use only the Type4 oil, as using normal Dexron oil will strip the lamination on the discs etc

How much does this oil cost? Miles Toyota said $110 for 4L. Even though it's a special oil, it's still a lot more expensive than oil in Repco or Super Cheap Autos.

TradeMe has people selling for $50-60, but doesn't delivery to Chch unfortunately.

One thing I've learnt,

You cant put a price on piece of mind :)

Valvoline Synthetic Maxlife ATF meets Toyota's T-IV spec... Dexron III doesn't :)

Some other's to use would be:

- AMSOIL Synthetic Automatic Transmission Fluid
- CASTROL Import Multi-Vehicle Automatic Transmission Fluid (ATF)
- Pennzoil Multi-Vehicle ATF
- Mobil ATF 3309

Amsoil has a very good rating aparently

Just use the genuine Toyota oil & be done with it. Just think, it's cheaper than rebuilding you trans. It could be a lot worse, ZF 6spd Falcon trans oil is $70 per L !!
I hope you're changing the trans filter while you're at it too.

That's cool, got no problem using Toyota oil, just want to check whether I can get it cheaper.

Fair enough. Guess you don't know unless you ask, do you.
