I would assume you will need to change cluster but don't know about the computer.

From what I've read and heard it'll be much much cheaper and easier to swap cars than swap transmissions. But if she's a paying customer I say go for it ;-)
You'll need the instrument clusters, looms and the computer at the very least, maybe even the engine, I know the auto and manual 3S-GE's have different heads, well valvetrain anyway...

its not a 3sge its a 1gfe

Yeah the ecu would probably need a swap.
Gonna get the clutch lines made up locally?
Hope she has a donor car so everything can just be swapped over, would make life alot easier!
The loom part number for Auto and Manual should be the same so you could probably find the spare plugs just hidden somewhere.
As I see with my car it has spare looms/plugs everywhere, must be all the same loom I assume!

Pretty sure you can get away with the Auto ecu just bridge it so it thinks its in neutral the whole time?
Do auto/manual 1gfe's use different speed sensors ie on gbox or diff?

the info I gathered from HyperRev magazine about Altezza.
1gFe (AS200) have different headers for 6MT and 4AT. not sure if that would a factor?
I have read in magazine that a Left hand drive 4AT 1G-Fe (Lexus IS200), had engine+ gearbox swop from a RHD 3S-GE, and 6MT.
the donor engine was from a JDM RS200 front cut. but all the cables has to be lengthened due to RHD to LHD.

Jason if your having problems or any issues with this ask Adrian (vinex 88) as his 1GFE is getting converted and should be done pretty soon :P
vinex_88 - April 20, 2009 05:17 AM (GMT)
lol...yea...it is getting converted but it seems like there's not much dramas yet so far but who knows mate...lol...
vinex_88 - April 30, 2009 08:51 AM (GMT)
hey jason have you got the manual conversion done yet?
mine went well and i reckon it looks mint apart from some small issues like when shifting to reverse gear the gear lever actually hits the handbrake lever..
have a question, most AS200's have open diff right, will there be any difference in lauching if i change it to an LSD? because i noticed that there's some play in my driving gear...not sure if its the clutch or diff...kinda feels like its slipping sometimes...

Turn the gearlever around! They are slightly offset and if you didn't know that you would never see it when re-assembling it.
30minute job, dead easy!

ah....no wonder...i'll look into that when i have the time...!thanks for that keith!
another thing is it's rather weird that whenever i step on the gas the revs don't go up, the boost gauge indicates that its up to 7-8psi, engine/exhaust noise loud as hell but the speed only increases slowly....there seemed to be some lag there...from my knowledge the IHI VF24 should spool up damn quick but it doesn't reach full boost until 4000rpm...

Check all your joiners, flanges etc. Could have a leak somewhere.
Could also need a electronic boost controller to keep the wastegate closed until you reach full boost.
And since yours has recently been done and you've given it abit of a drive around now check all your exhaust bolts etc if you haven't done so already.
vinex_88 - May 1, 2009 03:29 AM (GMT)
good point...i'm getting it checked later on...compression and see if there's any leaks...i already have a flange for the external wastegate but it is covered up so i'm wondering if that could be it that caused some back pressure?
EBC!!!that's part of my plan but.......$$$ is the issue...i really really don't want to overspend as i have just spent $13000k on my car in less than 6 months...7k for turbo, 6k for rebuilding after it blew my old motor + manual conversion....darn it...if anyone has a cheap 2nd hand electronic boost controller i'm keen!!!lol...
