Description: is200 sub box

is25exy - April 21, 2009 09:40 AM (GMT)
hey guys,

after almost dying at the neatness and the factoryness (i made a new word up :D) of i think it was DR JERKL's sub box, i've been researching into a custom made box.

Then about two days ago whilst on ebay i spot an ad for a sub box for a s15, moduled like JERKL's. So i thought i got nothing to lose and ask the seller if he did anything like the sort for a is200, and if he didnt how much would i be looking at to get one and the possible of a group buy.

The following is what i got in the reply

"Hi, unfortuneately we do not offer that model, if you are in sydney it will cost $300 to get one made up, for a group buy you will need atleast 7 people for $160 each.
Thanks, Phu"

So whos interested???

Hi, i'm interested...so how to mount it? and how much to ship to Melbourne? hope we'll have enough the number 7 members for a group buy....hip me up when there were enough number of members, thanks

These are a great idea. I'm obsessed with my boot mount behind the strut bar, but in all seriousness expect to pay $350 for a box like this from a custom audio shop, this is almost half price!

DR-JEKL - April 22, 2009 05:36 AM (GMT)
I think I paid $700ish for my box which makes these look like a bargain!

Then again my box is a hell of a lot bigger then the S15 subbox.

Please note that buying a generic box isn't ideal acoustically speaking. You should design the box for the sub you wish to use i.e you custom design the box to be moulded to the moulding of the bootwell & to the correct dimensions to achieve the required volume as specified for the sub.

pras - April 22, 2009 06:09 AM (GMT)
Yeah that's very true, about the box volume, kinda why i'm sticking to my guns, plus i have this awesome guide. http://www.hertzaudiovideo.com/file/pdf/he..._hxs_manual.pdf

But really, if they can build it with sufficent volume to support a Alpine Type S sub, that'd cover a fair few sub's within the small sealed box range.

Nice one!

I'll also be keen if it's going to be practical to get some into NZ.
I guess it'll also depend on the dimensions of the mould... since, as Dr Jekl says; subs each have a diferent optimal box volume.

I reckon it'd be good to get it up on the group buy board. Worth a shot!

hey JERKL, that s15 sub box is one of the boxes they make. i just used it as an example :D,

To our NZ members if you guys want in, ill look into the cost of shipping (pm me your postal codes) and maybe i can work out a deal with the seller so the payment can be made through paypal or something

As for the technicial side of it, i havn't actually looked into it. so i cant comment on that.

If we can get enough numbers, i'll further investigate the specs of the box in more depth and maybe get them to get the dimensions that covers a number of sub types (similar to pras's suggestion)

Im keen. Im in NZ aswell.

I got rid of my sub and amp when I had the baby coz I needed the boot space for the pram but if i can get one like this I will be stoked! It still leaves me room for the little ones stuff in the boot AND I can have my doof doof back hahaha :)

I'm currently getting a box made up by Rapid Radio in Auckland.
Have a feeling it's gonna be a little pricey (MUCH more so than the lead is25exy came up with, but all the same, I'll post up a couple of pics and the price once it's done.

So, cost ~ $600 from Rapid Radio.

But it really helps out with space in the boot...

$600 is very very steep considering materials would only cost $100

TEZZA_TIM - May 24, 2009 08:50 AM (GMT)
Mmm, I had a bit of other work done at the same time, but I'd agree it's not exactly a bargain...

thats about the going rate.

8 hours at $65 p/h to build a bespoke glass box and trim it. + materials

sounds right.

how much would you do it for?

Spoon - June 2, 2009 09:02 AM (GMT)
Do you know the approx volume of the box, Tim? I'm picking it'd be too tight a gap to build something big enough for a 12".

How does it fit in with the hinge too? Does the hinge come down on top of the box, or sit in front of it?

Got a mate who's into fibreglassing, so figure I might give it a shot, with his assistance as needed. Looking around, it doesn't look that difficult: http://www.talkaudio.co.uk/index.php?optio...id=26&Itemid=26. I would kinda like to have matching ones on the left and right sides (symmetry is always nice), but making them symmetrical might be a bit tricky... We'll see.

And one more good looking one here: http://www.astinagt.com/forums/showthread.php?t=14201

sorry guys been flat chat with work and uni, have exams coming up.

k about the boxes, the guy told me he's not doing any custom orders till mid july...
if you guys are keen, then ill pay him a visit sometime soon ( after the 23rd, my last exam). He is located in green valley... anyone interest who lives in the livo area??

TEZZA_TIM - June 21, 2009 10:51 AM (GMT)
I'd say volume is about 0.8ft^3 ... if that. I ended up with a 10" sub in there, and the box is probably far too small, even for that. That's about as big as we could get it - as the hinge needs to come down in front of it.

Geoff897 - July 16, 2009 02:07 AM (GMT)
Im keen for 1 now anyone else want to get them started?
