Title: Wilwood Brakes
Description: Who's interested?

koz - May 1, 2009 07:00 AM (GMT)
Alrighty then.

Background: http://z4.invisionfree.com/lexusaltezzaclu...?showtopic=8495

Looks like a very good deal to me.

There are two kits 4-pot and 6-pot. Aprox - 2400NZD/1875AUD and 2920NZD/2275AUD respectively.

I've dropped them an email, and we'll see what they can do for us.

For now I just wanna see what kind of interest there is in either of them. And what kind of timeframe we'd be looking at.

The final price will depend more on the exchange rate than anything else. This time last year we could have gotten the 6-pot kit for about 2100NZ. Hopefully the exchange rate will work in our favor, the chances of it getting worse than they are now are very, very low.

Could be keen, although im assuming its only for the front? how many people do we need for a good group buy?

lexism - May 1, 2009 08:00 AM (GMT)
keen man, does that include the rotors?

dirty altezza - May 1, 2009 08:57 AM (GMT)
Wow, To me it seems stupid to spend that many buckas on big brakes when its only a tezz and on the scale of Hp very limited. Honestly, I put Endless brake pads in now stomp on the pedal and the abs works overtime in the dry every time with no fade.

dirty altezza - May 1, 2009 09:06 AM (GMT)
Mind you, looking at the picture would get plenty of wank points especially when running such lame tyres with that many balance weights.

yojimbo - May 1, 2009 09:46 AM (GMT)
do want!

(but cant justify)

koz - May 1, 2009 07:13 PM (GMT)
They are giving us 100$ off the kits. Shipping will come to 245$US per kit. (Seems like too much?)

Outlander: No minimum order for the 100$ off. Fronts only.
lexism: Yep. full kit.

Edit: $1215 for the 4-pot and $1485 for the 6-pot is the best they can do. 210$ if they are all shipped by FedEx, but I guess we'll have to pay tax on them if we did that.

The kit weighs 24kg.

xnickx - May 1, 2009 08:39 PM (GMT)
What sorta lead time you looking for the kit mate?

No rush. Depends on the interest in a group buy, and what will suit most of us. Currently look at mid-June, maybe July. But it can wait.

yojimbo - May 1, 2009 11:50 PM (GMT)
1215 or 2215 ?

now could be interested!

comes with rotors?

NZD$ or Aus$ ?

koz - May 1, 2009 11:53 PM (GMT)
Ah sorry my bad. Prices in USD.

lexism - May 2, 2009 01:23 AM (GMT)
yep count me in, maybe a lil steep, but im sick of trying to chase up adapters and what not. Just as long as it's a complete kit that's the usual price for these things in the end after all the other crap u need to get it working.

JTMILLER - May 2, 2009 02:26 AM (GMT)
Just checking are these legal? checked the regency brochure (The regulator of car mods in SA)

so would these be fine or would you need to upgrade the rears aswell?

greeneyes - May 2, 2009 02:57 AM (GMT)
ABS will stop it locking up on one side, or one end.

lexism - May 6, 2009 05:31 AM (GMT)
common!!! i want 6 pots noooowwwww :P

DR-JEKL - May 6, 2009 09:11 AM (GMT)
I can get this kit with 2 piece rotors brake lines pads (in red only) for about $1500 AUD

Rotora 4 pot BBK

This is definately a cheaper option although I'm sure the wilwood would be better and it looks as though the wilwood can be used with 17" oem rims also.

KOZ: Did your mate have to use spacers for the 17" rims to clear the wilwood caliper? (I'm presuming he has the 4 pot kit)

What feedback did you get from him in terms of pedal feel etc?

lexism - May 6, 2009 11:24 AM (GMT)
shane, are the rotora's any good? never heard of them before :s
blue looks good ;) but i rather shell out a few more hundred for a better brake.

Dont confuse rotora with D2 or K Sport!!!

They have a huge rep in the usa that is up their with stoptech (stoptechs are twice the price though)

lexism - May 11, 2009 11:33 AM (GMT)
rotoras are out :( are the wilwoods still available, I would love a set...

xnickx - November 9, 2009 02:47 AM (GMT)
Did anyone manage to find a part number on these calipers?

The links are no longer valid :(

riderzx10r - November 9, 2009 03:10 AM (GMT)
I'm kinda keen for the 6 pots as the aussie dollar is so strong ATM. my brembos are good but only 4 pot...

Big Ant - November 9, 2009 03:44 AM (GMT)
I would be keen to get on this one aswell

Cheers,

Geoff897 - November 9, 2009 04:30 AM (GMT)

These should come in a lot cheaper now due to the more favourable exchange rates!

xnickx - November 9, 2009 08:30 AM (GMT)

Now... Wilwoods or Supra BBK?!

yojimbo - November 9, 2009 10:59 AM (GMT)
So tell me... How many of you guys have actually had a brake failure due to over heating? I dunno about you but my standard brakes will paint 4 big black semi slick lines on the road after many many k's of hard road driving. They can easily overpower the stopping abillity of $400 a corner semis. And 12 hot Laps of Oran park only required 1 cool down lap to get a good pedal again and do it all over.

I don't understnd the need for big brakes on a fast road altezza. The standard brakes, well prepared, do a very good job!

xnickx - November 9, 2009 11:06 AM (GMT)
Another way to look at it Matt, a stock 1GFE will also paint 2 black strips on the road, why throw a 2JZGTE in there? Yes the 2JZGTE can do bigger better ones but in doing the same function, they both do.

The stock 2 pots are great no doubt, but why limit yourself to just the factory twins when there are many options to do an easy upgrade.

I myself have driven a SXE10 with the Supra BBK and the difference was astronomical! As others have said, it's like day and night!

I guess is what some want to spend some $$$ on, and myself being one of them, am seriously considering a BBK.

Some spend thousands on kits and fancy paint and chromes, some spend it under the bonnet, some spend it all over the car.

I myself have always thought of the Altezza to be a perfect all rounder, and when I can be out braked into the hair pin by a UCF21 Celsior @ Pukekohe and nearly took his rear bumper off cause I braked when he did, I know I need an upgrade.

yojimbo - November 9, 2009 11:16 AM (GMT)
Don't get me wrong I already have supra bbk here brand new yet to be fitted. At this stage even with all the development of my car, they are way down the list if I get serious about lap times. I'll probably only fit them for confidence, not out of necessity as I can reliably over brake my tyres already.

RE99IE - November 9, 2009 11:17 AM (GMT)
for track work...a trusty 4 pot goes a long way. the two pot made the brake feel squishy by the end of the day.

yojimbo - November 9, 2009 11:23 AM (GMT)
Too many altzzas in Sydney that are dripping with aftermarket performance parts, and it seems they don't get used for more than a daily commute. Most are only at risk of being out braked into the traffic lights brighton lesands or auburn maccas.

This is the rotor and it's capacity as a heatsink. Rotor upgrade alone would net a large % of the performance gain all by itself.

I totally agree...hence In my own preference I don't put it in the car if won't get used in the track. :rally:

but that is the same for big engine mods...no point getting it if you ain't going to used for it's intended purpose - track or 1/4mile.

Exactly, I am stoked ATM to have my car just about ready for anything. Did oran park gp on the 22nd and going to Bathurst for a super sprint and hill climb at mt panorama in December. Invite me to some of these track days you do Reggie, I'll be there. Standard brakes and all.
