Title: If The Clutch Starts To Slip...
Description: clutch AND flywheel replacement?

Hi guys,
Ok so before i go and visit my mechanic to talk about this topic i thought i'd get this general question out there on the forum incase any responses are useful to others.
When a clutch is starting to slip and needs to be replaced, is it usually the case that the flywheel needs to be replaced also? I have an aftermarket lightweight clutch/flywheel setup in my car already. (not the original stock dual-mass one)
I am hoping that i only need to purchase a replacement clutch - wondering if when these things wear out, do they wear out together?

Solid flywheels can be machined, just get a new clutch kit from Exedy (Plate, Cover and release bearing)
Can get the stock replacement kit for around $400 I think (need to check at home)
Or a 5puk setup for around $600 (again I think, need to check)

when my clutch died lexus just machined the flywheel, that + a major service cost me $1700 all up.

They can measure the clamp pressure of the cover plate/pressure plate and see if that is up to spec and check that it sits flat on the spring plate.
If that's OK then all you need is a new clutch plate.
They might want to machine the face of the flywheel if it has burn marks, but in fact the burn marks and cracks from over-heating tend to harden the steel at that point and when they machine it those points stand proud and defeat the purpose of machining it anyway!
We went to Sydney today, 4hours away with Mrs Greeneyes driving and just reversing uphill out of the carpark I could smell the TRD clutch cooking.. can't afford to say anything tho'... :(

Yeah it happens easily if you ride the TRD clutch, just backing slowly out of a carpark will do it.
Hasn't affected the performance of it yet... although I'm not a driver that spends much time doing :skid:

Thanks for the responses guys! Yes i know what you mean, i live on a hill and there has been a few times where i have smelt that familiar clutch smell not being as careful as i should be parking it on such a steep street... especially when i first got the car. Looks like my clutch may be over it now, lol.
Hope to take it down to Rutherford and Bond in Welly to see what they can do. Souinds like the Exedy or TRD kits are the way to go for the Altezza.

Exedy... apparently they make most the stuff for aftermarket clutches under contract.
Its just a TRD without the name on it, and there will be a 'Trade Parts' or some similar clutch people in Wgtn who can fit an Exedy as a price check on R&B..
