Will it work in an IS? I assume it's the one for the Toyota. There's a big and small unit ??? Different size connector.
Good price though :)

Sorry to revive an old thread, but is there any news on this product?

Don't know about this unit, I got the GROM USB unit and recommends it. Costs more but they have email support. There're regular firmware updates that fixes bugs as well.

How does the GROM connect/interface with the factory headunit?

Looks like it's the same as xcarlink, Stephen. Usage manual
here.

But they are
quite pricey especially once you
add shipping to the equation.

stolen from LOC
"There is a spare port on the back of the stereo which was essentially for the optional MD changer that Lexus offered but technically could have been used for an external CD changer.
The grom unit (and other similar devices like xcarlink) use the CD emulation to give access to an external source. There are three types they offer, one is a pure aux in (red and white RCA cables, so could be used for a 3.5mm jack), one is an ipod kit (provides control of the ipod using the headunit controls) and the third is a usb kit which lets you plug any usb device in and control it via the headunit again."
edit: pah beaten by yanman! :P
Stephen - October 13, 2009 01:12 PM (GMT)
Thanks for that. The AUD/USD rate is looking better now :P
I read somewhere on LOC awhile ago that some owners could not get the XCarLink to work properly in their IS.

Yeh deliver is expensive huh!
Im keen on the ipod version:
http://www.gromaudio.com/store/ipod_adapte...rom-i2-toy.html$86usd + $34usd shipping = $120usd
2x $86usd + $38usd shipping = $210usd = $105usd each
3x $86usd + $45usd shipping = $303usd = $101usd each
4x $86usd + $45usd shipping = $389usd = $97.25usd each
5x $86usd + $54usd shipping = $484usd = $96.80usd each
6x $86usd + $54usd shipping = $570usd = $95usd each
7x $86usd + $54usd shipping = $656usd = $93.70usd each
So they can end up fairly cheep with a few purchased compared to the Aus available alternative that is $410aud :(
So lets get the ball rolling:

not that keen on an ipod version. even thou i have an iphone i'd rather it be a seperate thing. i can dl stuff quick on a memory stick and just wack it in the car and leave it there.

Note that for my unit, it came with a Y cable, so the GROM unit plugs to back of stereo, and the GPS unit that used to use that plug goes on the Y cable.
BUT, I don't think I got the stereo to recognise the GROM unit unless I disconnected the GPS unit.
This wasn't a problem for me because it's a Japanese GPS unit, but those with working GPS in their Lexus might want to watch out for this.
Stephen - October 14, 2009 12:50 AM (GMT)
Perhaps set up another thread for the GROM unit. The subject title for this thread is for the XCarLink. Would be easier for others to find.

I know you guys like stock ICE but seriously when your head unit is better used as a doorstop I reckon its time to spash some cash on a fairly plained face double din or something as It just is so much easyer.
Yes there is some wireing involved into getting your HU to interface with the stock amp but its just so worth it. I have interfaced my stock amp with a Alpine double din touch screen that pretty much looks like a gps when its paired with a factory double din fascia. Ipod controll through head unit bla bla bla. And when you are ready to sell simply just put your headunit back in or just leave it in...
Im actually considering looming a few aftermarket HU harneses myself for club VIP members. The problem is some factory units have different pin outs so maybie cpufix can help out with this. I make various looms for aircraft so this would be a breeze. I would charge half that of the rip off retailers and it would be a better standard with msn support :P.
Just guaging if anyone is keen at the moment and Ill be able to pump maybie one out a week. (working full time does take its toll)
iS_w3z - October 14, 2009 10:36 AM (GMT)
lol Xcarlink aus was a fail so good one winnie :D. Well I've found if the headunit uses ISO grade loom then you can simply buy a toyota -> ISO adaptor loom and it works just as well :D

Nope cant be done as if you use your head unit pre outs its almost always amplified to around 45W wich will kill your stock amp and your brand new headunits pre amps. If you bypass the amp you will have to rip up your rear speakers out and make a crossover for you frount splits.kinda defetes the purpouse of keeping it stock. Ofcourse Im talking to the lexus boys and girls hear unless you have the "premium" sound in the tezz.
To get around this you need to use the rca outs. You are also required to have a rear and frount RCA out on your new headunit. I have done this conversion twice already for myself and friends IS300.
oriphin - October 14, 2009 07:13 PM (GMT)
Yeh winnie plan is down the track to replace the lot, HU, Amps, Speakers but this is just cheaper and quicker for now there are other things that i want for the car before hand ;)

ahh ok understand. sounds good. if you could set it all up for a plug and play that would be awesome
IS200-Winnie - October 15, 2009 03:20 AM (GMT)
yup can be done as Ive done it for a few IS's now...
