Girlfriend took the mirage in to get the belts changed and a service done today,

Just called me up, they dont want to do the belts till 100,000 even though they are stuffed (its a 11 year old car)
But they do want to:
Replace the suspesion (old but still fine :P)
Put new tyres on (was done a few months ago and i know they are fine)
Put new windscreen wiper holders on... the windscreen wipers/blades work better in this car than my lex!!
Replace the air filter (checked this on sun... its fine)

So yeh i told her to tell they to only do the oil + filter and ill take it elseware to do the belts

so....... are they trying to save you time and money ?, i doubt it

i had this issue down in TGA recently.

took the tez in for a oil change and they decided that the diff sounded funny so i should change the oil (it's a LSD !!).i got them to do the job as i was going to do it my self some day...... (maybe).. bt i didn't put the car in there for that. i don't think i will go back as maybe next time my TRD exhaust will be knackered and i "should get a new one " or my brake pads will be shot.

BUT it seams more and more you hear of garages/ service shops "finding" things that "need" doing.maybe they didn't need the $$ from doing the belts/ couldn't be bothered ?. but still wanted some work..... easier money ?

What do you mean by that? LSD oil still needs changing right?

I think your right about the easier money part, belts suck to change (or i would do them) in comparison to the stuff they listed.
