Title: Broke My Key
streamz - June 15, 2009 04:38 AM (GMT)
I went to start the car this morning and heard a crack as I turned it over. The plastic case for the key cracked.
Where can I get a new key casing? The chip is fine and still works.
Cheers.

Again, it won't work as the Altezzas have the buttons on the side of the key not the front (refer picture posted above)

Not at this stage sorry Jono, I'm working on it but would be atleast a few months away :(
streamz - June 15, 2009 07:21 AM (GMT)
ok, might have to get a normal non transmitting key cut in the meantime
alimac - June 15, 2009 08:49 AM (GMT)
Mine is held together with gaffer tape :D
streamz - June 15, 2009 09:58 PM (GMT)
sounds like its a common problem then ;)

I have checked and apparently, only half of the Altezza key casing (as pictured above) is sold separately. This is the side with the Toyota logo. Similarly, the battery and internal O-ring are separate items. If the other side is required, the whole key needs to be purchased. So if it's the Toyota side, then this can be sourced.
xnickx, you may be able to confirm this.
xnickx - June 16, 2009 06:36 PM (GMT)
Yes that's right Stephen however it's generally the other side that needs replacing (the part that holds the key)

Well my key is completely busted now.
I found this
http://www.trademe.co.nz/Browse/Listing.aspx?id=231252843 which would be almost perfect if it had the second hole for the trunk button. I wonder if I can mod it.
Torquenstein - July 22, 2009 02:44 AM (GMT)
Your key has the inner cut not the normal key? Those are more for import corollas IIRC.
streamz - July 22, 2009 02:55 AM (GMT)
I was thinking maybe the blade can be swapped from my current key and somehow make a hole for the trunk button.
Torquenstein - July 22, 2009 03:39 AM (GMT)
The blade is moulded into the case. So your going to have to piss around with it quite a bit and it will probably just be weak as hell
streamz - July 22, 2009 03:42 AM (GMT)
Darn, didnt know that. If only i could read japanese. Im sure there must be a website selling key fobs for JDM cars.

I'm keen for one as well as mine is glued together at the moment, could be a problem when i need to take it apart to replace the battery....
Muller - July 24, 2009 07:33 PM (GMT)
Mine is fine if its any consolation.

| The manufacturers do not make a 2 button Toy48 key for the Altezza, and to set up a mould and manufacture for such a small market is not economic for them. However, they do make a 1 side button for another Toyota with a different key blade. They will supply us with this key with the Altezza Toy48 key blade in it, and then we need to modify the shell to accept the 2 button remote. I am not sure if this is possible yet, but if you could drop in with a key I can take measurements of it and hopefully this will give us the solution. I am not sure what the delay will be in manufacture, but will get an indication of this once we have given them the go ahead. It would also be useful to have an indication of quantities required. As there should not be an increase in cost, I would estimate these keys will sell at $80.00 cut with the remote swapped. |
Am going to see him this week so he can take measurements & will report back

| Hi Bob, An order has been placed with a manufacturer for Altezza remote key shells. Apparently they have been convinced that there is enough market out there. I have no timeframes, but something is happening and I will keep you posted. |
So with a bit of luck aftermarket keys may soon be available at a reasonable cost !!
:boink:
