Title: Another Newbie From Welly
2ToneTezza - July 12, 2009 12:04 AM (GMT)
Hi All.
I've always been a fan of the altezza and I just picked myself up a project car. a '99 RS200 with 6spd manual. It's been a bit abused by the previous owner but I'm intending to make it into a daily driver/ track day fun car, so am more into 'go' than 'Show'.
If this thing is half as much fun as my old skyline i'll be very happy :skid: :D

Yeah the paint looks better from a distance, not exactly done by professionals :(
and yes it does have a front bumper, I'm in the process of repairing it...

Cool, thanks, I did a quick search for how to post images but couldn't find anything.
I stumbled across the site when trying to find more info on these great cars... :)

6400, supposedly it needed $3g to get back on the road, but i got all the parts for less than $1g and that includes some nice tein adjustables(mint 2nd hand) :) so I'm pretty happy.

Hiya,
I'm in Karori, shes done 120 something k's.
I think it was a pretty good price, and i bought it as a project so expected a bit of work. The body is straight and the engine runs well, so really she just needs some TLC (something the previous owner obviously didn't give her :( he was obviously a complete knob)
I'm not quite sure how far i want to take the track day modifications yet, I still want to have a comfortable(relatively) daily driver. Any suggestions on a how far to go?
i think i will leave the engine alone (i've had my fun with turbo cars already :)) although it already has a pod filter, (which requires a cold air box...my fabrication skills will come in handy).
-Suspension is a definite (sorted thanks to Mr Tein)
-Wheels and tyres i had already.
-LSD Diff??? how good is the standard torsen diff on the track? the inside wheel seems to break loose quite easily, and thats just coming up my driveway! how much does a TRD one cost?
progress report:
-Bumper nearly ready for paint :)
-Soon I'll be booking her in with my mechanic to give her a once over and get the suspension Cert'd and WOF

sounds like a bit of a steal then.
There is plenty to look at on this site to do with mods and the problems people have encountered.
I have hks drift coilovers in mine and for going around corners seem to have very little body roll(without all the under body bracing). now when i jump into other cars they feel like they are on waterbeds. Although now the car is not very passenger friendly even on the softest setting but 70% of the time its just me in the car anyway.
With the diff talk to XnickX about it as he has/is pulling his ones apart.
im from over wainui/ lower hutt way.

A new TRD 1.5 Way costs $1250 NZD for the mechanical LSD ;)
Depends on how much track work your planning on doing, say once every 3 months or so then keep your stock Torsen, its not half bad! But if you do more then 4 a year then deffo look into a mechanical LSD.
Cheap as chips IMO compared to other brands (Cusco = $3000+)
OH I need a Cold Air Box :P
Hope you get your car done in time for MM09

Ok, I'll leave the diff standard and upgrade later if necessary.
When I get around to doing the airbox I'll post the plans :)
