Title: How To Remove Boot Lining Clips?
Robo - July 25, 2009 04:57 AM (GMT)
Want to change the brake light bulbs on the boot lid. I assume I access them by removing the boot lid lining? How do I remove the boot lining clips?
They don't seem to unscrew, and I tried pulling them out with pliers and screwdriver, but the plastic's pretty soft and shred pretty easily so didn't want to apply too much force. How do I go about it?

if it's the same setup as we have, black plastic clips with a rectangular hole across the top.
they the are pull-out type.
if you brake a couple no major as you can source replacements from super cheap or para rubber i am sure there are more places.
the bulb fittings are a quarter turn one way or the other.
easy as

I have a flat screwdriver that fits in there perfectly and I just pull with some even force...
As Caveman said, easy as to get replacements

Go into your kitchen drawer and select a fork that you don't particularly like, or an odd one from an old set (otherwise you will get it in the neck from your girlfriend/wife). Standard fork has four prongs. Separate two to the left and two to the right so that you create a 'V' effect. You now have the perfect tool to slide under the head of those plastic clips. As Caveman said, the clips in question pop out, and your new 'fork tool' alows you to apply even pressure around the head of the clips without breaking or the edges off ;)

Thanks, got this sorted.
I tried not to break them 'cos didn't want to fish out broken clips from inside the boot lid, they're real stubborn though, ripped the lining through one of the clips...
Tried to thread a string through the rectangular hole in the clip to pull them out, and the string broke.
Got it done, but there must be a better way, they wouldn't put rectangular holes on the head if you just need a screwdriver/fork to rip them out like nails.

I'm pretty sure there's a tool that exists, kinda like HOT2XS's fork, but a bit more polished. A slotted blade that goes under the clip and gives you some leverage.
Those clips are pretty annoying though.

Spoon you are quite correct, there is a tool for doing this job. I have only seen them at the wreckers though. That's where I got the fork idea :D
