Title: Cleaning Your Mags
Description: What do you use / do ?

hey folks
It's about time i had a good go at my wheels and bring them back as close to pristine condition (nothing to do with our meet up at the end of the month *cough*). And thought i would do my calipers and discs at the same time but thats another story.
Had a fairly big look around and a search for methods and/or products for wheel cleaning to no avail. I have gold wheels that have a build up of crud around the valve and bolts/nuts on the outer edge and for the sake of vanity want to get them cleaned up.
So what do you use / recomend for getting them nice and sparkly again ?

Last time I cleaned my wheels (a year ago) was to use some used toothbrush, some car wash and some water
Just brush til they are shiny again =]

yeah tried that....... sleeping the the car for that one :D (was the wiffee's toothbrush !!)
I have access to a hot water blaster / steam cleaner, but thats at work not at home just adds to complication. The thought is to remove all four wheels paint the brake capliers and the discs and give the wheels a thorough clean all at the some time
but i am looking for products i can "safely" use ie won't affect the tyre or mag (just being over cautious i guess)

I got stock wheels and I just use Armor All wheel cleaners, gets brake dust and road grim off, but doesn't remove marks that's kinda dugged into the metal on the wheels.
Whatever I do the front wheels just get filthy again after a week from the brake dust. :(
You can try using #0000 steel wool for the really stubborn bits?
Not sure what you would use to clean the inside of the wheels though, that part probably hasn't been cleaned since day 1.

Most of them time I just use the same water I clean the rest of the car with, along with a brush I grabbed from SCA made for cleaning wheels. If there's something really tough I have some mag wheel cleaner stuff that you spray on, wait a minute, hose off, and it cleans/softens it. Just something else I picked up from SCA, seems to work OK.

I've got this stuff too Nick. Be careful though if your mags have any stick on badges. Had MAK wheels on my last car, and this stuff disolved the glue on the little badges around the rim of the mag. Stopped using it after that. Caveman you are more than welcome to give this stuff a try on yours :) I'm with Spoon, I pretty much just use the same water that I've washed car with and one of those mag brushes (looks like pickle with bristles :D )

I have heard of the meguiars hot wheel cleaner affecting the clear coat on a set of SSR professor rims, and there are reported cases of damage on rays rims on the myis forum using this stuff also :(
Only ever used car wash on my advans just in case.

Sounds like you need to go buy yourself a big bucket of elbow grease...

I just use tar and grease remover in a spray can, spray it on wait a couple of minutes and hose it off, stuborn tar sometimes needs a scub, its like $3 from warehouse, cheep as chips and works mint.
