Title: Offset Mods For Large Brakes
Description: Options, Spacers, Wheels?

pras - August 13, 2009 02:01 AM (GMT)
Hi All,

One for those running the 4 pot supra brakes, GTR or Brembo/other there are a few.

Technically we should be talking about the disc/disk spacing when it comes to brake clearances. The curvature of the spokes to clear larger brakes.

Another way around this is to change to wheels with a different offset or add spacers which will push the rims outward from the hub allowing additional clearance. It's not an exact art as spoke design makes the difference.

So what brakes, what wheels are you using and what offset, any disc specification, if you have it.

My secret agenda is to figure out what rims I can use and what kind of offset to trial for a cheap set when i'm getting my te's repaired. Any help appreciated.

I'll go first.

Brakes: Supra 4 pot
Previous Wheels/Offset/Disc: Stock 5 spoke, 17x7.5 +42, U/K
New Wheels/Offset/Disc: Te37 17x 7.5, +30, Designed to clear larger brakes.

Anything that states "Will Clear Brembo Calipers" will work.

Here is a chart for those who are thinking of getting the kit:

Thanks nick, I guess there's no hard and fast rule for offset, but the wheel base that touches the hub to the spoke height shoud ideally be around 40mm or more.

Google helped me, these are standard wheels running a 15mm spacer

I'll go second.

Brakes: TRD High Performance Brake Kit (Supra 4 pot in all reality)
Wheels/Offset/Disc: Weddsport RS-5 18x7.5, +51

Am running a 10mm wheel spacer and longer wheel studs to allow the wheel to clear the caliper.

Charlie (Black200) is the best person for this...he used to be the wheel whore of the club with BBK.

I followed in his footstep though, this is my list of wheels that fitted:

1. Evo7 Enkei wheels - 17x8 +38 (i think any OEM EVO wheels fits)
2. GTR32 Vspec2 BBS wheels - 17x8 +30
3. TE37 - 17x7.5 +30
4. CE28 - 17x7.5 +30
4. Evo8 Enkei wheels -> staring at Charlie's brothers car :ph43r:

Other wheels in my which list that my fit:

Buddyclub QF 17x8 +35
Enkei RP01 17x8 +30 over
Weds SA70 17x8 +38
RE30 17x8 +30
Nismo LMGT4 17x7.5 +30

and who makes these are they the is-f wheels?
user posted image
If they are IS-f wheels, safe to assume they have plenty of disk to clear big brakes or are they the bbs ones you were talking about

RE99IE - August 13, 2009 06:11 AM (GMT)
bwaahaha that wheel in Glenn's RS is the F-sport wheels. 18x8 +30s I think.

this is the BBS I got from Charlie.

funnily enough those are tyres shines dripping out of the car instead of burnt rubber marks. ;) I don't think IS200 got the guts to :skid:

Rx8 wheels - specs unknown 15mm spacers to clear

RE99IE - August 14, 2009 01:10 AM (GMT)
well if you add spacers then anything can fit.

I personnally don't trust spacers for spirited or track driving.

Also, Eldan has 350Z wheels over his BBK as well..don't know the dimensions though

True, but some would be worse than others right?

Yeah I don't like the idea of them either...

I like the idea of 350z track wheels though!

Thanks E910, Starting to see a pattern here.

It's not exact science, but rims with a +35 or better with no extreme spoke design seem to be a good bet when choosing wheels.

Then depending on the disc, ie spoke design you have a chance of fitting bigger brakes, howver more spacerage may be required.

Will R34GTR rims fit on our cars without protruding out too much?

pras - August 14, 2009 04:35 AM (GMT)
What are the spec's mate?
7.5+30 & 8.5 8.5+40 sit really flush with a little bit of rolling for my te's.

Offset calculator should tell you how much they protrude.

smnt - August 14, 2009 04:47 AM (GMT)
18*9 +30 all round! :)

18*9 +30 all round! :)

Extra 20mm outside of the gaurds on the front and no change to the inside

You'd loose 4mm on the inside of the rear and gain 16mm outwards.

You couldn't fit them, but with big rolling &/or massive camber maybe you could.
Go on do it...Or bolt on flares

smnt - August 14, 2009 06:20 AM (GMT)
Lol bail no thanks... They're cheap as now! :(

black200 - August 14, 2009 03:54 PM (GMT)
hey pras! if you need wheels let me know, i'm happy to lend you a pair from my ever-expanding collection.

i'm a bit strapped to pay the shipping costs, but shouldn't cost more than 50 bucks to get a pair of te's up to you. Either that or can send a pair up with your car when it gets back from brett! :)

[f**k] I didn't know this thread was around, I would have contributed earlier.
The 350z track rims do clear the supra calipers by miles, the specs on them are 18x8 +30 all round.

The pics....

Thanks mate, I actually just started this thread on Friday to get some ideas of what was out there that cleared the brakes, and I was very bored so I felt like looking a wheels pics ha!

When I get my te's repaired I'm going to try to find a really cheap set of 17's to use
for the week or so, so thanks for that offer, let me know if you spot any cheap pairs or a set going around, condition doesn't matter as long as there aren't any cracks.

I think I might have a single white te37 in a 17 as a spare in the boot at the moment.

Yep their mine.

the RX8 ones are et50 IIRC

i had the 15mm from when i had the brakes with the stock alloys so just used them.

could prob get away with a few mm lower IMHO

I think we need to add the knowledgeable/correct information in the first post.
Need to state more information as everyone will have something slightly different.

Wheels: Brand, Size, width, offsets
Calipers: Brand, Adapters
Rotors: Size
