DrUsTR - August 19, 2009 12:43 AM (GMT)
Hi,
I'm looking to want to upgrade my Disc Brakes from Standard to maybe slotted or drilled....

Any tips on what to get, where to get and what else would be needed when changing Disc Brakes (i.e new calipers....)

Cheers,

Dru

The type of disc is dependent on the type of pad you'd like to run and kind of braking performance you are after and what is most important to you.

Wear/Life, Noise, Dust, Type of Braking Hard/Soft, Frequent/Infrequent.

The pads and fluid would be good practise...

If you want a pefect match... racebrakes can do that for you

Project Mu are nice for complete setups

and lastly DBA are our local brake manufacturers which do new pads, and perhaps calipers.

I'd call up project mu and ask what is suited to your application, the less tradeoffs the more expensive.

Most people go for an organic pad on a soild disc which is good for low to pretty high level of braking, depending on your dust/noise/wear categories with the supra big brake kit

for the road the supra bbk is great, although i only tend to notice it when you drive a car with crappier brakes, you hardly have to use them and the price is right....

You basically have two main options...

Supra BBK -
Pros = Epic braking performance, reasonable value.
Cons = The requirement for low offset wheels, the inability to use many wheels

DBA rotors + Bendix pads and fresh brake fluid -
Pros = Stock calipers are still decent, can retain stock wheels, slightly better braking performance
Cons = not as good as supra bbk

Depending on how much you want to spend, just fresh decent pads and machined rotors will give you good braking performance. Also a good brake bleed and fresh fluid can work wonders to a cars braking performance.

P.S I'm selling some stock brake rotors with 36k on them for $150 if your interested.

I had them on my old is200, they are certainly better than stock and provide a bit more "bite" when you brake if combined with the right pads. But they are no match for a bbk.

Oh ok...

BTW this might sound like a noobie question, but whats BBK ?? Big Brake Kit ??

how much does a bbk usually go for ?

hello:
I have DBA 4000 series x-drilled rotors for front + Bendix pads.
DIY job..

Very little dust compare to stock pads.

happy so far

how much did those set you back ??
and where did you get those from ?

Also, are those still using the stock calipers ?
