PRECIOUS CARGO FOR TOYOTA FORKLIFT
A leading motorcycle dealer trusts the most valuable production motorcycles in Australia to a Toyota battery electric forklift.
Fraser Motorcycles commissioned the two-tonne payload Toyota 7-FBE20 three-wheel battery electric forklift in April 2009 at its purpose-built sales and service facility in Concord, Sydney.
Its precious cargo includes the Ducati Desmosedici 16-valve V4 road bike worth more than $100,000 and Harley-Davidson CVO machines worth $60,000.
Service manager Greg Ryan said Fraser Motorcycles chose the Toyota battery-electric forklift to suit the confines of the Concord facility's basement storage area.
"We had to have an electric forklift to operate in the basement and the three-wheel configuration was essential for space reasons," he said. "We have no extra space at all, so we needed a highly manoeuvrable machine that can turn within its wheelbase. "It's a dynamic piece of equipment and it's going well - we trust it with some pretty rare machines.
The Desmosedici is a road-going replica of Ducati's V4 MotoGP racer, the machine Australia's 2007 World Champion Casey Stoner races.
Greg Ryan said the Toyota forklift lifts up to 400kg per skid and unloads an average of five trucks per day - both new motorcycles and parts.
Fraser Motorcycles was founded in the 1960s and is an institution in the Sydney motorcycle scene. It opened its Concord facility in October 2008.
The 7-FBE20 forklift is the highest payload model in the Toyota three-wheel battery electric range of 1.0 to 2.0-tonne payload models.
It combines the manoeuvrability of a three-wheel design with Toyota's proven forklift performance and safety advantages.
Toyota's 7-Series battery electric forklift models have an alternating current (AC) motor system. Compact-yet-powerful AC Motors dramatically improve both travel and load-handling performance to a level that approaches that of internal combustion forklifts.
In addition, the 7FBE has Toyota's Active Mast Controller which improves longitudinal stability and helps prevents the load from falling, improving safety and operating efficiency. In addition the steering synchroniser and the travel speed control add to the overall operating safety of the forklift.
