rage_against - September 3, 2009 03:25 AM (GMT)
hi im new and looking at buying a is200. ive been lurking around here for the last few days and thought id register. ive just got one question, is the is200 reliable? do things go wrong continually? i was looking at an alfa but after reading what people have said about them in the alfa forum i was turned away as i dont have the money to afford the continual problems they get. anyways. thanks for all the info ive already learned.

Bullet-proof! Especially compared to Alfas!!! :D
I can't think of any particular problem has has occurred a few times, especially with the IS200. They don't have the 3000rpm rumble that the 4cyls have, and thats a characteristic rather than a problem!
What's your budget?

I think common problems are
- CD jam on early stock head units (where CD slot is at bottom of head units)
- worn lower ball joints (cheap to fix)
Remember to change the cambelt every 100,000km, else risk major damange.
Anyone think of anything else?
Since you said IS200, assume you're in Aussie?

hi - second the factory cd error3/error1. have had mine replaced recently
basically factory cd just gives out and needs replacing, go for aftermarket ones as they are worth the money improves sound system a great deal - plus don't cost much
apart from that NOTHING goes wrong, bullet proof! :vrrrm:

yeah sorry im aussie in nsw. budget wise somewhere around 14 - 15gs. great to hear of no problems lol. as for the cd player first thing id be doing is replacing it anyways so no biggie. the only thing with the is200 is performance. doesnt seem to be alot of parts around and even if you do do something sounds like it doesnt make a huge difference anyways but i think id be able to live with that. thanks heaps guys. ohh also, if anyone on here is selling their is200 around my ball park be sure to let me know. ive checked the for sale sections already. and one more thing, umm model specifics, is there anything i should look for when buying? for example, difference between luxury and sports models? besides the leather etc? thanks again
