Title: Can I Put A Altezza Lsd In A Non-lsd Diff Housing

Smashed - September 6, 2009 06:03 AM (GMT)
Hi,

I have a 1999 Altezza rs200z, my diff has teeth broken off the crown or pinion gears, but the LSD unit is still in good condition.

Can I get a non-LSD diff head/complete diff and swap my LSD unit into it??

Are LSD units the same bolt pattern on the crown wheel as a non lsd diff and is the casing the same??

Will I run into any problems with this??

Has anyone done this before and mabey have pictures of the two diffs for comparison.

Thanks
Mark

Straight bolt in.

Why muck around with replacing the pinion and crown and place the unit in when you can just get a complete LSD Diff head and just bolt that in?

The LSD and non LSD units ATM or 6MT are exactly the same bar the final gear ratios and the LSD or non LSD unit inside

Thanks for that, only want to swap it over as the non-lsd diffs are alot cheaper, then just put my current lsd unit in and have a new gears for cheaper than just buying a complete lsd unit.

Do you have to locktite or torque the crown wheel onto the torsen lsd unit??

Deffo locktite it down.

I was getting quoted about only $50 less for a non LSD diff head when I was shopping around.

Should be around the $300-$400 mark for a complete diff head if my memory serves me right (or even less actually!)

Is that $3-400 for a complete LSD diff?? (diff, housing, gears etc)

xnickx - September 6, 2009 07:02 AM (GMT)
Sure is!

Where are you located?

Smashed - September 6, 2009 07:05 AM (GMT)
Located in Auckland, NZ,

Thanks for the numbers, will give them a call during teh week, if they are that cheap will def just replace the entire diff with a lsd model, saves any hassle,

Would you recommend getting another 4.1 final drive or changing it to a 4.3 final drive??

Car is a 1999 rs200z model

Thanks for the help

All depends if your car is a daily, weekend weapon or dedicated track hack.

I myself replaced my 4.1 with another 4.1, but would have loved a 3.9.

Yeh just a daily, is standard except for 19's and lowered, so will prob just get another 4.1.

Thanks for the help

Hi guys,

Here to learn so forgive the ignorance, but would this be a similar cost (parts only) for everything needed to put an LSD into a non-LSD tezza? Or is this specific to a car with LSD that's broken?

I ask because originally, Smashed was looking from a repair respective but am interested in what's involved.

xnickx - September 8, 2009 04:11 AM (GMT)
Yes pretty much the complete diff head (Housing, pinion, torsen LSD unit everything)

So with the complete diff head you can convert your non torsen LSD SXE10 6MT into a torsen LSD equipt unit :D

Alas, 5AT - what extras are required?

xnickx - September 8, 2009 05:57 AM (GMT)
Actually, should be the same from a 5AT to a 6MT, just need a different rear diff mounts or extra bolts. Will check it out for you tomorrow when I'm back in the office
