Title: Another Newbie
Description: GPS question..
pandorasbox - September 7, 2009 05:37 AM (GMT)
Hey guys,
I'm new - have just bought myself a RS200z L spec 6spd, so far i'm loving it :)
I know this has probably been done a million times before.. but Can the GPS be changed into anything usable or am I stuck with a useless screen? If someone can point me in the right direction it would be appreciated :)
Thanks!

Congrats on the purchase.
Theres a few options with the screen, you can either go to the effort to splice into it and work with it, just look for CPUFIX's thread which i believe is in the electronics forum, or you can do what i am doing and buy a new GPS and put it inside the housing, depends what you want out of it in the end, CPUFIX's method is better if you will be running a car computer down the line etc but what im doing is a cheap and dirty fix :P
Edit:
http://z4.invisionfree.com/lexusaltezzaclu...?showtopic=1928 is the thread you will want to read for the way to use the original screen, i noticed in the other thread you don't really have any plans to modify the car so i would suggest it would be easier to buy a new satnav (i went with a garmin nuvi 5000 for AUD$700) and install it in the housing.

If you should choose to remove the screen and housing.....
DC has a replacement tray for sale below
http://z4.invisionfree.com/lexusaltezzaclu...iew=getlastpost....and sell your screen housing to disturb win/win
Do you have an aftermarket CD player ? , if not then pretty soon the dreaded ERR3 will pop up it's very ugly head.
There are a few CD/DVD headunits coming through that also do satnav, you may need a sizable loan to make that work.
If i recall correctly cpufix ended pulling his modified satnav and carputer and went to seperate units.

Justin, do you have any photos of your GPS install?
JTMILLER - September 7, 2009 07:34 AM (GMT)
Not 100% complete at the moment Stephen. Haven't had time to mount it up and hardwire it in, will hopefully do it in the next few weeks!
If i have time tonight ill do a mockup of what it should look like :)

Thanks guys. I do have a navman but I need it for work so can't have it installed.. unless I buy another one. Will have a look thru those threads and see if something might work.
Will take it into the auto electricians and have a talk with them about the sterio, wanting to get another one installed nto so keen on the factory look. I have no idea what the ERR3 is but doesn't sound to fun!

that just means only put 5cds in instead of 6 or it will scratch them all up lol

oh thats not as bad as I thought :P As long as it doesn't do what my last car did and eat all 10 cd's..

linky below on the story
http://z4.invisionfree.com/lexusaltezzaclu...wtopic=9145&hl=but most shops will charge you in the region of $150 to install if and maybe more if you have the super-live system (which is kind of fair seing as it is a trade of sorts)
