TOYOTA TO UNVEIL TWO HYBRID CONCEPTS

Two hybrid concept vehicles will make their world premieres for Toyota at the 2009 Frankfurt Motor Show this month.

They are new Prius Plug-in Hybrid Concept, and Toyota Auris (Corolla) HSD Full Hybrid Concept.

Prius Plug-in Hybrid expands the capabilities of Toyota's full hybrid technology, known as Hybrid Synergy DriveŽ.

The vehicle enables pure electric operation for short-range day-to-day transportation.

From late 2009, an extensive field trial in Japan, the United States and Europe will see more than 500 units being leased to selected fleet customers.

Auris hybrid concept represents a milestone in Toyota's Hybrid Synergy DriveŽ strategy by introducing Toyota's full hybrid technology to a mainstream model.

It is another step in the deployment of Hybrid Synergy DriveŽ across the company's model range.

Toyota Australia senior executive director sales and marketing David Buttner said up to eight new hybrid models will be launched in Australia over the next four years.

"We will expand our hybrid range beyond Prius and locally built Hybrid Camry, which goes on sale early next year," Mr Buttner said.

"The possibility of a Corolla-based hybrid coming to Australia is being discussed, but there is currently no firm plan or time frame.

"Similarly, we are hopeful we can participate in the international field trial that has been announced for plug-in Prius, although nothing has been confirmed."

Frankfurt will also stage the European premiere of iconic next-generation Toyota LandCruiser Prado.

This vehicle will go on sale in Australia during the fourth quarter of 2009.

Two customised iQ show cars, iQ for Sports and iQ Collection, will also be on display.

The Toyota stand is located in Hall 8 of the Frankfurt Motor Show exhibition centre, where the Toyota press conference will take place on Tuesday 15 September at 3:30pm.
