Title: Clutch Shudder?flywheel?
vinex_88 - September 11, 2009 06:37 AM (GMT)
Hey guys, my clutch seems to shudder slightly and can be heard from outside of the car when i'm just about to take off in 1st gear...nothing major but just wondering does anyone have this problem?
Has anyone here tried to machine their factory flywheel?

Factory flywheel I expect is a dual-mass unit, so the clutch plate is a solid unit and the slip is taken up by the two halves of the dual-mass flywheel with friction pads in between them.
So the shudder could be inside the flywheel....
Replace it with an Exedy or TRD if its 3SGE.

Clutch shudder can happen with heavier after market clutches too, nothing serious aslong as it isn't throwing the car around everywhere.

Actually now that I think about it, would it be because of the output shaft seal leak on your box Adrian? Oil not circulating around the shafts and gears when starting perhaps?
It's a 1GFE+T, 6MT.

Clutch shudder on takeoff is documented in 1G-FEs, it's even listed as a possible issue in the Dog & Lemon Guide.
Mine does it too, you either learn to deal with it or you learn how to not make it do it :-)

The TRD unit in greeneyes shudders when cold, but you learn to drive around it. Its worst if the car is just rolling at an intersection and you want to let the clutch out & speed up.
Try a couple of other people's cars Vinex-
