what cause very loud rattling from camshaft?

vvti gear broke?
car drives normal

Most likely a tappet problem. The shim has moved or the something has happened to the bucket or valve to give a bigger than usual clearance.

I'd start by checking tappet gaps-

Take a recording and post it up...

i have that noise in my car too...been there for f***in ages...some mechanics says that its not a biggie some says its a big problem due to vvti cam gears being worn...like greeneyes sad...get valve clearance checked...mine was checked and valve clearance is ok...so dono wads wrong there...
