Title: Sealed Autocross, October 4th
Description: @ Slipway Brooklyn

Distrb - September 23, 2009 11:39 PM (GMT)
Calling all people that had max fun at the megameet event!

Mostly this is the same as the previous events i've run ... turn up with helmet, overalls, $30 etc. But we've changed a couple of things, so I will put the changed things to be aware of here.

QUOTE

1) Documentation and Scrutineering is starting at 8am this time, an hour earlier than the previous 9am doco start.

2) Spectator cars will be charged $5 per car (note: not officials cars, or tow cars for competitors). The reason for this is that the venue owner gets charged road tax per car using the road, and there's a car counter on the road.

- Why haven't we charged this in the past? Because we didn't know that he was charged per car, simple as that.

- Where is the money going? It is being handed straight to the venue owner.

- Is the charge per person? No, it is per vehicle, so pack lots of people into the car, or get a ride into the venue in a competitor car.

- Are you trying to discourage spectators? Not at all, but it isn't fair to the venue owner if his hire charge is whittled away by our bringing in loads of extra cars. He is running a business. If we want to keep hiring the venue, we need to be generating him profit, not loss. It is a user pay world, and he is being charged per car using the road.

I need you guys to mention this if you've got any spectators coming to see us, and it will go into any advertising I put out there.

At the venue, spectator cars park to the left, competitor cars park to the right.

3) We will send cars through to the track from the doco/scrutineering car park in smaller groups as soon as we get half a dozen cars scrutineered, lined up, and ready to go in. This means that people can drive in, get parked up, unloaded, and start lining up in numerical order much earlier. Rather than the mass 50 car convoy like we have done previously.

4) the laps will not take as long to complete this time, so that while you get shorter runs, we will be aiming to give you the opportunity to get many more runs during the day, with less wait time between runs.

5) we plan to run two stopwatches in the timing car, so be ready to be given the all clear to start as soon as the start line official gives you the thumbs up (assuming no cones are down etc of course). Again, this is just to do everything to make the queue time shorter

6) We're running the BBQ again, so bring some coins. If you want to bring food to get chucked on the BBQ, Chef Adam reckons he is up to burning anything you can fit on the bbq. We will have the usual sausage and bread supplied.  The proceeds from the BBQ are going to the Targa Life Challenge (fund raising for Cancer), so please dig deep.

7) This event we will cap the entries at 45, so don't risk turning up at 8:55am, just in case. Again, this is to ensure that people get best bang for buck out of the event. If all the other changes mean we're getting heaps and heaps and heaps of runs during the day, we might look at increasing the cap for the next event.

8 ) We are keen to train people on event official roles such as Clerk of Course, and Scrutineering. If you have an interest in assisting at such roles, please contact myself and Andrew. In related matters there is a scrutineer training course running at Motorsport NZ in October on a Friday night. It doesn't cost anything, and they give you pizza and coffee.

9) other things that I have forgotten will probably start turning up here as well.

http://www.hccc.org.nz/webpage/28 is the event webpage where you will find regs, scrutineering schedule, overall points and so forth.

Other stuff of note coming up:

am always keen for helpers too! which is one way you can avoid having to pay to get your car in!

Great chance to get involved either on track or off track!

still a possibility :)

What time would I need to be there to help out?

If it's raining hard, I might not be there..... I am lacking in wet weather gear at the moment.

As long as it's not howling ice rain, I'll be available to help :)

Distrb - September 29, 2009 03:11 AM (GMT)
Come see me any time between 8 and 9am. Any later than that and we may have headed in already.

are the gates at the top going to stay open or do we have to be there at a certain time to get in?

Realistically there wont be anyone up there to open the gate for you to come in much after 9am. From which time i'll be needing the help of those who are lending a hand. After 9am if you can get hold of someone in the venue to come up and let you in then you can do so, but i'm sorry i wont have time to do that for people myself.

If you are planning on entering the event you want to be there at 8am sharp for documentation and audit. If entrant numbers are anything like last time, you risk missing out if you get there later than that!

2ToneTezza - September 29, 2009 04:48 AM (GMT)
I don't think I'll be entering this time, and 9 oclock isn't too early :) are passengers allowed in caged cars this time? I'd be keen on seeing how you are 'supposed' to do it, if so i'll throw in my overalls and helmet :D

thanks to everyone who came and entered. cheers to Don for helping out. Pity you had to leave so early Raymond!

Was an awesome course and not a mega huge entry list. meaning lots of people got 10+ runs.

including this chap, who did this on his very first run! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Oul4fL17CD8 (yes motorsport is dangerous)

hope to see some more altezzaclub peeps at the next one on nov 15

Ard Righ - October 4, 2009 10:35 AM (GMT)

OMG!!!! No wonder everyone said we were crazy to go out with you professional slipway addicts!!! :woot:
I'm pleased that never happened while I was there spectating, or I would never have gone for my passenger ride in your car!!

At least our Altezza's managed to keep all four wheels on the track!!!! :P

2ToneTezza - October 4, 2009 07:36 PM (GMT)
Will definitely be into doing some more of these.
Seeing how well those pulsars were doing I'm now having second thoughts about selling mine dammit!

I still can't believe that Honda City didn't break any windows!
