Title: Moving To Oz

T3AZRGRL - September 25, 2009 11:50 AM (GMT)
So I've finally decided to move to Oz, Thinking upper part of the coast (Brizzy)
I love my car to bits but 50/50 about if I should take it with me or not! Mates are saying Yes but I just can not make my mind up, It just seems abit of a shame to have to leave it behind!
Is it worth it? & How can I find out how much It will cost?
Comment please guys!?
:)

Hey Anna.

Good luck with the move. :D YES take it with you,but hope you don't have the hassles that Keith had.

xnickx - September 25, 2009 08:56 PM (GMT)
Deffo worth it Anna, even if you bring it over, get it on the road and sell it eventually! Many JDM "enthusiasts" will snap it up for a decent price :D

All the best with the move.

Going for employment reasons?

T3AZRGRL - September 25, 2009 10:57 PM (GMT)
Thanks Guys, Yeah Going for financial reasons :)

greeneyes - September 25, 2009 11:09 PM (GMT)
Got to be worth over $20kAU which is $24,000NZ....

I used World Moving, who were probably as good as anyone else, maybe the hassles were unfortunate. Being me I picked them because they were cheapest, $10,000 for a fortytfoot container. Other quotes went up to $16,000, and there is no way to tell if one is better than the other.

It should only cost a couple of grand to ship it, get it valued as low as possible using Altezza ads from NZ and low insurance quotes, because they will charge you 10% tax based on its value, and 10% Govt Slavery Tax on top of the value PLUS the first tax...

I photographed the speedo before it left to make sure no-one ran too many Km up, but I needn't have worried as the battery was 100% flat in Sydney, I assume someone left the glovebox open.

Photocopy ALL the documents involved several times as this place runs on pieces of paper!

Good luck it it!

I can take care of it until you've made up your mind :D
IMO, i'm sure it will be well worth taking it with you and do everything greeneyes said. ;)

How hard will it be to take a car with modifications? (ie engine conversion)

Also, is it limited to one car per person, or just as long as I have owned and driven them for 12 months?

greeneyes - September 30, 2009 06:48 AM (GMT)
One car per person per lifetime...

AND you have to have owned and driven it for 12months.

So if you convince someone moving over here to bring their car its like GOLD!

They weren't fussed about modifications or engineering on Greeneyes at all, so long as it met basic WOF standards to be on the road. (brakes, lights paperwork etc)

Anything coming in not on Personal Import has to do all that stuff.

T3zagrl if you don't intend to bring it, someone on here will buy it off you first then have you bring it in I'm sure... Even my son over here will!

I got some quotes off a logistic company
Ill copy and paste it on here a little later.
But I have every intention on taking it with me!! I guess Im just too attached now,
Had it for 2 years! She hasnt failed me yet.

$1900 for shipping alone to Australia from New Zealand, wow. Seems even more expensive than shipping from Japan to New Zealand?

caveman - October 6, 2009 02:37 AM (GMT)
wow... not too bad.

way less than i had thought it would be,
of course you will insure it in transit ? .
Add a couple of thousand to your budget for unknown's.
and give it a complete and thorough wash underneath AQUIS can be really fussy and a wash on the port in aussie can set you back a fair coin

good luck with the move :D

greeneyes - October 6, 2009 03:09 AM (GMT)
QUOTE
give it a complete & thorough wash underneath

Don't worry about it- they will insist it gets taken by "special" sealed transporter to an AQIS-approved steamcleaning facility where they will use it to get the lunches that day! :D Jobs for mates!

$440AU/car... I did both Altezza & Datsun at once, and they were still unclean underneath, although the wheels and mudguards looked great!

The Tasman shipping has been tied up by the Unions for 100years and is the most expensive piece of water to cross in the world!

Still, $10,000 car in NZ, plus $600NZ costs is $8500AU.

Add the Aussie costs- $1000, plus tax number one 10% $850 plus GST on that, another $1000 odd.. Your car is worth say $11500 to you, rego etc might add another $1000, so $12500 on the road... You could sell it in NZ and buy a 2002 Camry over here for that! :P

You could sell it here for over $20,000 the next day. Not only do you have your baby but it is a great investment!
