Title: Too Low For The Man
proud_2_be_australian - September 28, 2009 06:47 AM (GMT)
Now with my front parkers seemingly solved I now have the issue of my car being too low for the inspectors. I really like how low my car is now and its only the exhaust that is too low. In one section its 10mm too low.
Now im wondering what are my options to make it pass inspection. My current thinking is buy a cheap set of stock springs, put them in for the inspection and then swap them back out. Does anyone have any other better ideas?
Cheers

Start of this year i raised my car and made everything legal for my pink slip, but the general look of my car, they just didn't want to pass it even though it was bloody legal.
Never again will i bother with this crap.
Don't bother swapping shit out unless u have some unsafe makita springs, just find a "lenient" pink slipper, what area u from?

Can you squeeze 10mm out of the exhaust??
So long as its not by the engine its pretty flexible..

Im from canberra so the first inspection is done by rta inspectors. Moving the exhaust up is an option but that moves its a bit close to the drivetrain and Im not sure how it would enjoy all that extra heat from the exhaust.

Take out the back seat, spare tire, jack, boot floor, etc. Pump your tires right up to 40psi. Surely between those two you'll be able to gain the thick end of 10mm. If that fails, fill your boot with helium balloons.
e: And make sure you have barely any petrol in the tank.

I had this similar problem earlier this year... i had just finished shopping and i got pulled in for a RBT.. and one of the boyz in blue was questioning me about my suspension mods. and i was like yep i changed them and he quoted me that there was a 100mm rule and i was like "oh really, i didnt know". So he got out his pole and slipped it under the car.. and the first thing it hit was my exhaust and he was like nope too low. and i was like well i have people in the back and shopping in the boot.. of course it would be low... but then he gave me a defect and gave me 7 days to fix...
never again will i get springs... Adjustable Coilovers is the way to go...

how much would adjustable coil overs cost me? would they be the better option? would they handle better than the super-lows I have in it now?

hey mate Im in canberra as well. I think we are the only guys on here that are. take it to roadways in belconnen and get the exhaust pinned up a tiny bit and pump the tyres up really hard as stated above. once you are over the pits it doesn't get inspected again so the less it costs the better.....

If you have the money for coilovers I'd suggest getting them, they'll be a huge difference in handling over just springs.
I don't know how much a set would cost over there though.
