Title: Voice Navigation System
Description: Can you change it?

I just want to know your opinions on this.

Is it possible to hook something else up to that screen, such as my headunit, somewhere in the car? Eg video inputs somewhere in the car or is it solely used for voice navigation. As it does not work in NZ unless I get a chip but I dont want GPS really. Id prefer to play video off my headunit through that screen in the dash or possibly even replace the screen with a new one.

2000 Rs200 Manual Screen pops up with a push of a button and tilts with another button.

I think it was disturb (could be wrong, correct me if so) who has mounted a sat nav in the factory location and i know there was a swis guy on LOC forums in the UK who mounted one up the same way.

Check out what this guy did: http://my.is/forums/f103/pics-videos-new-a...housing-315410/

Thats pretty cool. Thats what I'm looking to do. So replace the screen thats there and use a new one. But Im still wondering about the quality of the screen that already is there.

I still have my screen in place from the original japanese voice nav system. Its just a redundant piece of equipment now. I changed my head unit to an after market one and everytime you open the screen now it has a mind of its own. It opens and closes, opens and closes all by itself for about 10 minutes

I tried to find something to covert it to an NZ version but I gave up after a few months.

I brought one of the factory nav system from a wreckers. Ive taken it apart and taken the screen out. The factory screen is useless cause it has no inputs or anything only some thin little connection that has no use.

Eventuallly im going to have a navman or something in there like this pic:

That may be a little difficult as most Navman models have switches on the top lip which will be inaccessible if you hard install the unit inside the motorised compartment.

I have mine velcroed to the front of the existing screen so that I can take it away and use it in other vehicles, etc. The only problem is that with the latest models the plug is on the bottom of the unit, which means it gets in the way, so in order to get clearance, you need to space the unit forwards from the screen, which I have done with adhesive foam.

I'll post a couple of pics up when my car comes back from the spray painters.

BTW, the traffic function on the latest models works quite well.

I have a garmin nuvi 5000 which is a nearly perfect size, screen takes up all but .2" and there are no buttons or switches which impact upon the usage of the unit.
