Title: Rubberised Dash?
Description: marks real easy

mikeyde - October 6, 2009 04:31 AM (GMT)
This was 1 of the 1st things I noticed bowt the interior b4 I bought my altezza.
The dash surround in the centre that houses the stereo air con etc marks real easy, 1 salesman I talked to said it was sum kind of rubberised coating or sumthing.
I gently picked at a small area with my finger nail on 1 of the altezzas i looked at after noticing sum marks on it and to my shock and surprise little bits of dash came off and stuck under my nail. It almost looked as if it had been damgaed by the sun and gone brittle but still rubbery, the salesman said it wouldnt be a problem to fix but the beige/tan interior didnt appeal to me so I passed.
Mine unfortunatley was marked when the stereo was put in, it looked mint b4 that, fortunately it doesn't seem as brittle as the other 1 I saw.
Has anyone heard or experienced this or got any ideas on how to fix?

throw up a pic when you can so we can see exactly where/what your problem is

I had that problem already, especially where my son places his hands on the strip above the cubby hole, i had to go to a local sign maker who has adhesive carbon fibre tape, he had to clean off all the sticky stuff with thinners, then put on the tape and cut to size.

End result looks nice.

It seems that the heat is what softens areas of the dash.

I'll take sum photo's on the weekend but the marks on the dash in my car aren't that bad so no guarantees on how easy it will be 2 see them.

I have the same problem in my tez where the heat unit area connects the to centre console.

Will chuck some photos up tomorrow so you can see if its the same sort of thing.

Got a couple of pics now, it's this part of the dash I was meaning and any other areas made of the same material, the white altezza I saw b4 I bought mine was worse and marked much easier.

Sheesh hope you didn't pay for that install !!!! Rough Rough
I know in our car that area of plastic/fascia is very soft. low tack masking tape one of the best ways to protect from this type of damage

Hahahahaha  it makes you wonder how some of these monkeys manage to tie their shoes in the morning-I'm jst glad I didn't pay for it, thankfully it actually looks worse in the photo than it does in the car.
