Title: Is200 Servicing And Associated Costs..
Description: Major, Minor, Clutch, Discs etc etc etc

ILUSZN - October 7, 2009 12:00 PM (GMT)
Hi all

I don't own an IS200 YET!! But i may be looking at one this weekend..

I have asked the usual questions, servicing etc etc etc.. and the answers were not really answers.. So my questions here are:

Major Service: I am talking timing belt, tensioners, oil, oil filters, water pump, fuel filter, other belts, air filter, gear box fluid, diff fluid, plugs.. From your experience. What is the general cost of a major service?

Clutch: Whats a clutch replacement worth? (6speed manual, and, 195k and no clutch been done.)

Front Brake Rotors and Pads: Im assuming just the generally DBA disks and pads of my choice, so anywhere from $300 - $600 for this.

But if anyone can shed some light on the above that would be great.

Thanks in advance.

UPDATE: ok got into contact with Lexus to get a price on major service/fluid change and here is the information:

The timing belt on the IS200 is replaced at the 150,000km service interval.
The price for this service is $1250.00 and includes an engine oil and oil
filter change. The timing belt tensioner is not included in this price and
is an additional $160.00.

The 160,000km service is a major service including, fuel and air filters,
coolant and brake fluid, diff and gearbox oil change. To have these items
included in the 150,000km type service it would cost and extra $550.00.

The spark plugs are replaced at the 100,000km service interval so shouldn't
be required at this service.

The waterpump (if necessary) is an extra $520.00.

The alternator, A/C and power steering belts are an additional $170.00.

No doubt the 100,000km timing belt/tensioners/water pump is the most costly. All the parts are about $400, then roughly the same for labour.

Oil, oil filters, air filter, plugs you can easily do yourself, so just the cost of parts.

Altezzas (and I think IS200 as well) uses T-IV dff fluid, which are more expensive then regular diff Dexion fluid, and no, don't use regular fluid. Local Toyota dealer said they're $90 for 4L, and the car takes 9L.

Other parts are no more expensive then other cars.

So, if you dump the car to a dealer to take care of it all, it can be quite costly, but if you're a bit smart about it you can get bargains (and VIP discounts) on parts, and save on labour by doing the basics yourself.

Thanks for the information.

So i can safely say for a complete major service with all filters, diff and gearbox oils. To have a service center (NON LEXUS) do the work I would be looking at say ~8hours labour (Most places $66 p/h) plus approx $600 in parts/materials.

So, from this at a rough guess i would be looking at a rough cost of $1200 for the major.

So any information on a clutch replacement?? $200 for a clutch + 3hours labour?? (~$500)

Hrmm.. This car is becoming a bit expensive off the bat.. So what do you guys/gals think.

2000 model is 200 sport lux, 195k on clock. standard.. $13,200 advertised price. Should I ask for a price drop to adequately cover servicing that should have been carried out along time ago?

I'm in NZ, so don't know about the prices in Aussie (assuming you're in Aussie). If the timing belt/water pump haven't been changed yet then I would be asking for a price drop since the 200,000km is due.

Has the car been regularly serviced, or is a service just happens to be due around now? I would be wary of buying a car where a service is due to have been done a long time ago, especially at such high milage.

stay away from it too high kms...remember you get what you pay for(most of the time anyway :P)

if you do decide to go through anyway ask for price to come down as guaranteed you'll spend some coin for major service

if i was you i'd look for another with lower mileage but that's just me

I bought my RS200Z 6 speed Year 2000 for over $1000 less. Don't rush into it and find one that going to last. Mine only had 105,000 kms done.

This was in NZ though. In NZd

Hrmmmm... Thanks for the info. The funny thing is. That every one seems to be asking for a fair bit for these cars now.. There are a few for sale but the other i looked at , 99 with 149,500km on the clock wants $18,000 for it. And everyone who is selling a RS200Z wants $25k for them..

I don't see why the price of these has gone up over the last 6 months or if they are over valuing these cars??

Oh and from what I understand the car has had regular servicing, they have owned the car since 2006 and it had 105k on it when they purchased.. So from 06 - 09 90k was put on the car due to travel from Melb to Mildura very regularly.

Maybe if i do look at the car it would be worth getting lexus to inspect the car, For $150 they do a pre purchase inspection (Blackburn do this)
