Title: Weird Problems, Both Came At Once
nMikey_C - October 8, 2009 05:28 AM (GMT)
Hi Team,
I'm hoping someone here has had a similar issue, or knows how to solve this.
Couple of weeks ago the control panel on the drivers door was playing every now and then, i.e. I couldnt open or close passenger windows - however if I leaned over to the passenger side and tried to opent the window it would work....
Now it seems as though the control panel doesn't control any of the passenger windows, and the button to lock the doors has also failed.
Power mirrors still work and so does the button to fold the mirrors
As of last friday, when I lock the car the bilnkers don't flash, however when I unlock the car, they do -
Also when I lock the car, you can hear the lock engage (thud type noise) then after 2 seconds it does it again...
WTF???
Any ideas????

Hi and welcome! Where you located?
1 word, Multiplex aka gremlins!
No seriously no I haven't heard of that kind of problem at all.
Is it an aftermarket alarm? Had many electrical work done on the car?
Wonder if it's 2 unrelated problems:
1 - Window master switch
2 - Alarm/central locking system.
Can easily diagnose the 1st problem, meet up with a member and try their master switch in your car, simple plug on and off
Would deffo get an auto sparky to look into it.

alternatively, could be broken wires/loose plug at your drivers door, hinge, seen it more then once. but yeah, helps to know if its factory central locking etc

Thanks for the speedy response!!!
Located in Sydney - car is standard, in and out.
Good point about the damaged wire through the door - I also read somewhere else (outside this forum) that the contacts on the control panel in the driver’s door can become dirty and thus be temperamental or appear to be faulty
Project for the weekend is to take the control panel off and have a look. My brother is an electrician, so we should be able to test the switches to see if they work OK…
Which leaves the central locking issue outstanding… I think it might be a faulty relay somewhere, but it doesn’t explain why the lights flash when I unlock the car – unless it’s a different mechanism on a different circuit (just thinking aloud… and off on a different tangent)
As at today, everything is working like normal – so I am stumped…
Also, I’m hesitant about contacting an auto electrician… I can feel a rip off just thinking about it

As far as I know, the flashing hazard lights when you unlock is a factory safety feature, mine does it when you open a door too.
