Title: Adjustable Hks Coilovers Stuck
Description: sigh , tried everything

jtm_usa - October 12, 2009 10:07 AM (GMT)
hey guys,
recently purchased a set of 2nd hand hks hyper-d adjustable coilovers.
have been tinkering around with them trying to twist the nut that the coil sits on for all 4 shocks and they wont budge.
ive tried everything to get them loose, crc, brake cleaner ect.
theres a a bit of surface rust around the threads, which im entirely sure is the problem?
ive tried compressing the spring to take some of the load off of the nut that it sits on then trying to use the c-spanner to turn it while its locked in the vice, but no damn luck.
im running out of ideas here !
any help would be greatly appriciated !
thanks
~jason

Maannn 2nd time i have heard of this on these coil overs.

I would suggest wrapping it in something soft (maybe pillows? lol) put it in a vice.

You hold one c spanner and a mate on the other and pull like craaaaazy! In opposite directions of course

If not take it some some fitter machinest shop and see if they can crack them

Literally hose the siezed nuts in this:

Then put coilover in a vice with copper pads on jaw grips and crack the nuts by using a hammer on the c wrench

Do not use an oxy torch! as this heats the damper fluid and stuffs the seals inside teh shockbody.

Put a bendy bar (read 5ft metal pipe) on the end of a c-spanner and hung off it to get mine to move... That bendy bar has been my most useful tool I've ever had :P

I had same problem with my trd coilovers and the only way i could get them loose was to hit them with hammer in punch/big bolt where the c spanners grab...once i got to free up they worked good.

I never had a C spanner with my TEINs so I used to use a big flat head screwdriver & a hammer. Rangi, bit it worked.

i had this problem 2 years ago when i bought my HKS hyper D aswell and was trying every way but couldnt get it moved so took them to some suspension shop to get them cut the old rings and replaced them.

thanks for all the help guys !
managed to get them all cracked and loosened ready for adjustment!

i actually used:

i drenched them in it and left them for a few mins, chucked them in a vice tight, then got a thick blunt steel wedge/chisle and whacked the big ring so it tightened up and let off pressure on the small ring below the big one, so i could loosen the small ring easier.
heres an image of how it went:

i had a bit of trouble at 1st with some of them, needed to literally drench the nuts a few times on 2 of them, and also chipped a small peice off some of the aluminium rings notches from whacking the c-spanner too hard lol
im glad i cracked em, and thanks for all your help guys!
will post pics of the install next weekend :) !
