Title: Audio Settup
JTMILLER - October 12, 2009 01:06 PM (GMT)
Hey guys, i don't know a massive amount about audio gear so i'm just trying to check if this will all line up properly. The P450.4 amp i already have (thanks pras!) so i tried to build the rest of the system around it.
Head Unit ~
Clarion CX609AFront Speakers ~
Rockford Fosgate P1652-SRear Speakers ~
Rockford Fosgate R1693Amplifier ~
Rockford Fosgate P450.4Thats the main hunk of the system but while i was there was thinking might aswell go the whole hog and get two 12" subs.
Subs ~
Rockford Fosgate R1S412Amplifier ~
Rockford Fosgate P300-1But im not sure if thats the correct way to do subs?
Any advice or feedback is much appreciated! :)

Good stuff man. Keep us posted with your build thread.
With your sub/amp set up (as above) your amp makes ~300W at 2ohm. Your sub is a 4ohm unit in theory giving you the amps rated output of 150 W. so two subs parallell'd up will produce a "maximum" 300 w. Should be ok :D
I am assuming you are on a budget for the build but i trust you have made an allowance for wires etc ?
Good luck with the build :)

Should be a ok system, replacing the std lex setup?
I would personally ditch the 6x9 and not run back speakers (unless you carry passengers allot) and bridge 2 channels of the amp (225w with a bridge on that amp) and ditch the monoblock (note that this is for if your on a budget)
And only buy one sub, with subs i have found the better the quality you get defiantly beats quantity. A mate of mine had 4 cheep clarion 12s in a alfa and i had 1 12 JL w3 and it was a better setup in every way, smoother, louder, didnt sound like it was about to fall apart.
Lets say your just looking at RRP
Head Unit ~ Clarion CX609A $499
Front Speakers ~ Rockford Fosgate P1652-S $259
Rear Speakers ~ Rockford Fosgate R1693 $89
Amplifier ~ Rockford Fosgate P450.4 $350
Subs ~ Rockford Fosgate R1S412 $99 x 2
Amplifier ~ Rockford Fosgate P300-1 $319
Just over $1700
So i would look at more: (if you wanna stay with RF)
Head Unit ~ Clarion CX609A $499
Front Speakers ~ Rockford Fosgate P1652-S $259
Amplifier ~ Rockford Fosgate P450.4 $350
JL w3v3 $509 (sorry but the higher end rf subs need to many rms these subs are efficient - also i know that you can buy the in a box from jbhifi for about $600 or so and get the to throw in some cables ;))
For just over $1600 so that still leavs you with a bit more $ to get some slightly nicer components. Again i would look to JL or something like the cheaper focals (JL C2-600s are $399) And you will have a much muuuch better sounding system.
If you want to do more research might be worth signing up to the Mobile Car Electronics Australia forums. You will find they will tell you the same thing (more is not better unless your building a show car for looks)
Also as caveman said dont forget cableing. For the system i listed above you will need some RCAs Speaker cable 2 or 4 gauge power cable, Batt terminals(cheep and worth it) Fuse. And if you can some sound deadening.

I'd maybe look at a better source unit. Do you really need a double din? They look at bit 90's IMO. Have you looked at a
Pioneer DEH-P80RS or
Alpine CDA9887. You can pick them up pretty cheap now (over here anyway).
If you flag the rear fill for now & put that money towards some better fronts.
Rainbow SLX265 or
DLS MS6A would be a good place to start with out blowing the budget.
Like oriphin said, bridge your 4 channel & use dynamt to get the best out the components & maybe look at a better sub.
Rainbow Hammer's have a good rep & are reasonably priced.
That said I'm sure someone like BIGW will be able to give you some good advice related to what's available in your market.

Yeh i would probably agree on the single din, duals are a bit of a rip off for what you get.
Unless your getting one with a screen i would stay away

Thanks for the advice guys,
Not going for massive improvements over the stock sound system as i'm a bit hard of hearing :P just the HU is getting error 3 A LOT and i want a blue-tooth setup as i am always on the phone in the car so sick of having to pull over.
Really attatched to a double din no screen, think im the only person i know who is like that, i already have a screen settup and i just like the entire gap to be filled, helps retain a relatively stock look compared to most i have seen. no need for a pocket or anything else in there.
About 60% of the time i have people in the back otherwise i would ditch the rears as thats what everyone advises :P
It is going to be a two stage install with the HU, Amp and Speakers going in first then the subs a bit later when i have some more $ for better components.
I was at a dyno/sound off day here in Adelaide a few months ago and the owner of marvey tech said i'd be best off with two 12" subs that have a decent custom box, but then again you guys actually have these kind of setups so whats best? a single 12" or even a 15"?
caveman - October 13, 2009 05:56 AM (GMT)
i have a single 12 in the tyre well. need a bit of space for baby stuff :D
for me a single 12 is enough (heh it is a square kicker 12 @700wrms) :ph43r:
stay tuned for HOT2XS's setup we built a bit of a trick setup for 2 12's.

I will try to get photos up in the next couple of days of the set-up Caveman designed for my two 12" subs. This set-up allows for a rear strut-brace and still heaps of boot space to boot :D
HOT2XS - October 15, 2009 05:53 AM (GMT)
Ok guys and girls. As promised, I have put up a post of the Dual 12" sub enclosure with a Cusco rear strut-brace running through the middle of it. Courtesy of Caveman Audio Solutions :D Cheers Caveman, it looks and works really well and I still have heaps of boot space. Stoked :D :D
