Title: Ticket?
ar rai wa ! - October 14, 2009 01:30 AM (GMT)
Has anyone here ever got a ticket for driving close to other car?
I just got it today(150$) at 1 while I was driving down the harbour bridge and got pull over and he said I drove too close to other car (actually I didn't drive that close just normal as other driver)
I think this is a bs $150 fines

Yeah they can do it, cop's discretion.

Wasn't it Peter Brocks' catch phrase ?
"don't be a fool follow the two second rule" .
only got to ask your self, could you have stopped if required ?
and yes it's probably for filling their quota

Yep, seen people on motorway patrol get pulled over for that.
As Peter Brock said... Bit hard on the motorway I know. He must have been low on his quota.

pulled over for being too close behind or beside the car? Ive heard of someone get done for reckless driving for being close next to the car... their wing mirrors were nearly touching but heh... what can ya do?

Filling his quota :P However, safe following distance is highly recommended ;)

...and if you didn't rear-end him it was obviously a safe following distance.
Worth fighting in court! Don't take a lawyer, just stand up and say your piece...
Did he measure the distance? How did he measure it? Does he have any way of making sure his measurement is correct? -ie calibration. Was he in a position to measure it accurately. Why does he think that distance is not enough? Why is 5metres (or whatever) fine and not 4.95? Does the distance vary according to the car weight and the tyres? What about driver age and reflex times? Does he check this before writing out a ticket?
Just think, every minute you have him sitting in a courtroom is saving some other poor bastard being ticketed! :D
