Hey guys,

Im really keen to order one of these for myself as i recently got hit with the error1 on the std head unit.

This unit plugs into the back of the factory headunit and allows you to connect a ipod to it whilst also charging it.

Install looks easy as.

Price wise we are looking at the following per unit shipped to aus.

From there can either pickup or in aus (im in Sydney - Frenchs Forest)

The prices get better the more people that go in for the buy and look like the following:

1x $86usd + $34usd shipping = $120usd

2x $86usd + $38usd shipping = $210usd = $105usd each

3x $86usd + $45usd shipping = $303usd = $101usd each

4x $86usd + $45usd shipping = $389usd = $97.25usd each

5x $86usd + $54usd shipping = $484usd = $96.80usd each

6x $86usd + $54usd shipping = $570usd = $95usd each

7x $86usd + $54usd shipping = $656usd = $93.70usd each

Hey buddy,

Sorry but not after the IPOD one. However you could add the USB one to the shipping and i'll pick it up from ya in Frenchs Forest. :D

yanman - October 14, 2009 03:09 AM (GMT)
I wonder why the USB version is more expensive than the iPod one, usually it's the other way around! LOL

Hey no troubles, it can be any version really :)

Yeh heaps weird that the usb one costs more

smnt - October 14, 2009 03:52 AM (GMT)
Sweet thanks for updating it.

Robo - October 14, 2009 04:45 AM (GMT)
It could be more expensive because the USB one needs to know how to decode MP3s, WMAs, etc, while the iPod one just needs to pass sound from iPod to stereo, the iPod itself does the audio decoding.

Would it be cheaper if I participated in this GB since I'm in Melbourne? So basically, GROM USB gets sent to Sydney then I have to hassle someone to post it to Melbourne.

Hey mate, probably still worth it probably be a extra $10aud or so to post to Melbourne?

Yeh to save on shipping it would be sent to Sydney the to Melbourne

If a few people are interested ill see if they can do a discount as well ;)

AndyC - October 14, 2009 09:31 PM (GMT)
I'm interested. A couple of questions...

When it's all connected up and you want to listen to the ipod, what function/source do you select (i.e. CD, TV, etc)?

Do you still control the song selection etc from the ipod?

Is it compatible with a standard 99' Altezza stereo?

Cheers :)

Robo - October 14, 2009 09:45 PM (GMT)
The stereo allows an external CD changer to be connected, and the GROM unit basically emulates that. Once plugged in, you press the CD button twice, the stereo will switch to the GROM unit.

You control songs via stereo buttons. If you plug the iPod via AUX then you control from iPod.

I've have '99 Altezza, stereo with MD player, works fine. Did have to disconnect the GPS unit though.

chukatsung - October 14, 2009 11:02 PM (GMT)
I am wondering if this is also compatible with the Apple iPhone?
Some products in the market ain't compatible with BOTH the iPod and the iPhone :)

Thanks for that Robo. So, using the GROM unit, can I plug my ipod touch into the unit then choose the songs as normal using the ipod and have them play through the stereo using the CD function? (I don't have an AUX option on my stereo, my stereo also has the cassette instead of the MD)

Will most stereo installers know how to hook one of these up?

Robo - October 14, 2009 11:52 PM (GMT)
If you want to control via iPod instead of from stereo, then you may need to get the USB version of the GROM unit instead, which has both USB and AUX connection. You should email them to see if the iPod version has an AUX connection.

You don't need a stereo installer, it's literally one cable plug in to back of stereo.

AndyC - October 15, 2009 12:58 AM (GMT)
Thanks for that. Sounds like the USB version may be a better way to go...

Perfect, one cable I can do. I can also fit a band expander while i'm at it.

Cheers

Yeah, I did think about that, since it would have to get shipped to AUS then to NZ

well I just installed mine 2 weeks ago. It charges the iphone while you listen to the music. But its unable to display the name of the song. And you need to setup playlist.

Its very easy to install, took me 45 minuntes to install it the first time. It'll be alot quicker the 2nd time.

Big Ant - October 29, 2009 04:15 AM (GMT)
Works with Iphone's I have had mine for about 2 years now you just need to update the software the instructions are on the GROM site

Great unit for the price with no more ERR message

Cheers,
