Title: Dual 12" Sub Enclosure With Strut Brace Insert
Description: by Caveman Audio Solutions

HOT2XS - October 15, 2009 05:45 AM (GMT)
I was talking to Caveman a while back about the fact that I had two identical 12" subs, and would be kinda keen on fitting both of them in my boot with my Cusco strut-brace still in there. Putting a dual 12" enclosure in front of the strut-brace would almost take up the entire boot, and the space between brace and the back of the seats would be VERY tight. Caveman came up with the idea of running the strut-brace through the box ;) One trip to Bunnings and an afternoon of me supervising (ie. holding bits of wood and looking like I know what I'm doing), and Caveman's creation came to life :D Cheers Caveman, you the man :D :D

I'm back over the hill tomorrow morning for the weekend. Will be 'mount side' next weekend it you still need a hand? Will give Mad Soundz in Hams a yell and see if they have anymore 'affordable' (ie. free) carpet on hand. Plus you can check out my new SUPER bright HID's in my spotties. Almost burned my retinas out looking at them

xnickx - October 15, 2009 08:54 AM (GMT)

Nice effort guys!

Solid design guys, good job!

One question, if you need your spare is it a *** to get out (do you have to take your sway off?)

caveman - October 15, 2009 08:16 PM (GMT)
Stu and i have a plan to replace/ modify the plastic floor piece under the carpet. Then it will be a simple lift the carpet and tuck out of the way. lift the board and bingo tyre well :D

right now.... and maybe permanently the plastic floor cover thingy is a challenge (not impossible to remove).

sway bar itself sholudn't be an issue..... well it wasnt in testing anyway...

That's a pretty cool design guys. Pity about the sony subs though :P The boys on NZICE haven't got to you yet Caveman?

Would one of these fit behind the strut brace I wonder http://soundstream.com/AudioProducts/Subwoofers/stealth.htm

ha ha. i lurk there :ph43r:

Wow that sure is slim,:o would be pretty sure you could get a wedge box to fit in that space maybe point it foward through the ski harch . possibly even two of em !! (or three.. four ... drifting off to imaginary land now...hmmmmmmm)

Hey Cody. Cheers bro. Yeah, put a section of that foam tube at each end of the brace inside the pipe for a bit of insulation :D

Even as the design stands, it's pretty easy to get the box out if you need to get to the spare. Two bolts and some banana plugs and out it comes ;) More effort to get the rest of the crap I carry around in my boot out to be honest :D

Yeah I know Sony aren't the greatest subs. Just that I had two identical ones lying around and thought it would be good to house both of them (ie. the other half wanted them out of the computer room, or they were going in the bin) <_< Would have bought some new ones, but then I would have had four subs and been sleeping on the couch

LOL I know what you mean though, I've currently got more ICE in my bedroom than in my car.
