the book says 2001 so its possible its 2000 as for engine noise, u need better grounding |
better grounding? i dont understand... where can i find a better ground?
please help. :P
My amp manual mention something like,
When using the speaker(high-level)input,the back wire must be grounded at the radio. failure to do so will result in noise and/or improper operation.
but my amp didnt come with any wire....
can someone help me understand this please,i really want to hook my front speakers to the amp,i left 2ch doing nothing atm :(

You can use any 2amp and above eletrical wire that is available from KMART.
recommended is 8gauge wire.
Find any bolt and use it, most bolts are to the body of the car anyway. for mine I just used the boot hinge bolts, and put the wire to that. Generally any attachment will do, just as long as its attached to the body. I used to get stereo noise because a ground that I use was actually attached to the back of the stereo which did not touch the car body.

scrape away some of the paint at the grounding point to ensure proper electrical contact
voiceinsideyou - December 27, 2004 07:45 AM (GMT)
lextcy - what was the source of those diagrams? Getting wiring diagrams seems to have been a bit of a black art... especially ones which detail how the sat nav is wired up.
I replaced my factory head unit with an aftermarket one meaning my sat nav now no longer powers up - i'm interested in finding out what I'd have to do to remedy this... but not sure what the dependencies are with the factory head unit system...

voice, those diagrams are those used by lexus workshop. its in a book called lexus is200/300 electrical wiring diagram supplement
as for the satnav, a guy named fargo on is300.net and UK lexus owners club has made a device which allows you to keep the satnav working but you need to have the stock amp installed still
heres a link
http://fargosys.com/html/sat_nav_bypass_module.htmlalee, are you sure you have everything grounded properly? getting a new HU might not help
Alee79 - December 27, 2004 08:51 PM (GMT)

Could we get an aftermarket Head Unit install post started here? With pics? Since i have recently been victimised by ERR3, the threat of OEM headunit failure is looming.
Perhaps we could get some pics of those of you with aftermarket installs? And some testimonials on what was acheived? Better sound - how much better? Has anyone managed to intergrate the factory amp and speakers with an aftermarket HU? It's been said that there are few/no aftermarket units that can 'talk' to the OEM amp like the OEM headunit can. Apparently they share a special bond...
jasestu - February 13, 2005 06:00 PM (GMT)
No factory amp in mine, so no hassle there. Headunit gives me RCA inputs so I can run my pocket pc tunes though it. All good.
Spanky69r - February 13, 2005 06:30 PM (GMT)
mines exactly the same as jasestu

As an aside, we really need to get the seach function going on this board - here's an earlier discussion which has some aftermarket pics:
CDR, CDRW and aftermarket head units

Don't go there! The Altezza is an awesome car don't distract people with silly pretend computer games when they're sitting in the real thing!

You'll find my Sony single DIN unit (complete with flash reflections  ) in the thread Pinned: "Err3" Common Problems

So how do you install the aftermarket HU? Re-wire new speaker cables from HU?
No one here in the uk does a connector that goes from the Altezza to HU (ISO connector??)
Any help guys n girls??
Spanky69r - February 15, 2005 09:25 PM (GMT)
all i did was cut the plug off and crimp sum lugs on the wires and join it that way
jasestu - February 16, 2005 04:31 AM (GMT)
We've had this "show me head units" and "how's the stock sound system set up" sort of question a few times.. Since the search function isn't too flash here, perhaps a mod can take the time to tidy up the posts and make some stickys?
Thunderbird2 - February 16, 2005 06:46 AM (GMT)
Better yet, for the static information such as this, we can drop all this info on the website and direct people there.
I started the thread after doing a search because i knew a few people had installs but hadn't posted pics, and because i figured a thread with all the pics in one place might be a good idea.
FLEX - February 16, 2005 09:19 AM (GMT)
I had the install done twice ...
the first time was good - it worked and i was satisfied, but all those unwanted wires at the back - i just couldnt live with ...
so out it goes again ... everything was chopped up, shortened to the exact required length and re-wired.
the factory amp looks like to be going next :D thats such a pissy looking thing.
dammit ! never though i would be doing audio in the car !
