Title: How Many Genuine Altezza's In Aust.
Description: Help needed
1stRR - October 23, 2009 06:34 AM (GMT)
Hi All,
Approx 18 months ago I imported an ex Netz Cup Altezza race car from Japan and have been preparing it to enter in a racing category here in Australia called Improved Production. The category (as the title suggests) is for production vehicles with improvements in areas such as engine, brakes, suspension, safety etc.
Most of the cars in the category are or were available to purchase new here in Australia like Honda Civic and Integra, Mazda Rx-7, Holden Commodore and 4wd performace cars like Evo's and WRX's. More recently the category has started to allow the more popular grey imports to enter the series like Sivia's, GTR's and this is where (I'm hoping) the Altezza fits in.
What I need your help with is to accurately estimate how many Altezza's are in the country. If it turns out there is only a handful I may not be allowed to race it ,which would be a real shame. I hoping there are quite a few and I was hoping that with the help of this forum, I might be able to get estimate of how many genuine imported Altezza's there are running around in Australia. I have also contacted DOTARS (Gov. dept. for vehicle imports) to get the official import numbers form them but I am yet to get an answer.
So please if you are an active member and in the know about all things Altezza tell me... how many of us are there?
Thanks for reading,
Cheers Nathan Stephens

i know that there are at least two genuine ones in SA, a blue gita and the white RS200 that is currently for sale, but i think there might be a couple more around, not sure about the other states, suspect theres a fair few more in the east :P

How many do you need to qualify as 'not a handful'?

Hi Robo,
Here we are in a bit of a grey area. I expect the numbers of vehicles will need to at least be in the double figures, so 10 or more...
Cheers Nathan

..add one for Greeneyes, but there is probably less than thirty.
I assume only enthusiasts would buy one, and they're likely to go online to learn about them & look for ones for sale, and then they are most likely to come across this site.
Having said that, they still have such a great international reputation that there MUST have been more than a dozen imported privately.

Wez has posted up a list of all of the altezza's imported into Oz by memory...

Hi all,
I got notification back from the newly named "Legislation and Imports - Vehicle Safety Standards Infrastructure and Surface Transport Authority (formaly DOTARS).
The offical word is:
The database and found 45 applications to import the Toyota Altezza.
Of those, 38 were approved for import. 28 of those were approved for road use, the others were for racing or rallying.
So with this information I'll plead my case for acceptance into the Improved Productin Racing Association so I can race it at Bathurst over Easter.
Will let you know how I get on.
Cheers,
Nathan Stephens
