Title: Importing A Altezza Into Nz
4815162342 - October 26, 2009 05:27 AM (GMT)
Hey Guys,
Im thinking about selling my altezza and getting one from japan, due to wanting one with lower km's (under 80k if possible) and there's nothing i saw on trademe i like.
I read a while ago about how the cars have to be made after a certain date. I had a quick look on the ltsa website but couldnt find anything obvious.
After a quick look im after something like this:
Tezza 1 year 99or
Tezza 2 year 02.
Am i able to import any of these, is there any issues with importing and registering or it just a huge pain in the ass. Has anybody heard anything good/bad on this website (it seems to have a huge amount of cars)
Thanks in advance

There was something posted up a month or two back about it.
The engines on the early models no longer meet emission rules, and I think it cut out '98 to '02, but I can't remember the cutoff date.
xnickx - October 26, 2009 08:06 AM (GMT)
Not so much a cut off date, more the model number prefix.
If it starts with GF-SXE10-AExxx its not compilable.
If it starts with GH-SXE10-AExxx, it IS compilable.
The 1999 is a definite not compilable import, the 2002 might still be compilable

Looks good!

But for $21,000 NZD?
+ 12.5% tax when it arrives
+ $2000-$3000 for shipping, towing costs, MAF costs etc
+ other hidden costs listed below?
Just remember the following for the other extras.
QUOTE (4815162342 @ Oct 26 2009, 09:14 PM)
*extra height adjustment
*RECARO seat(driver's)
Will need a LVV Cert for the coilovers, and if the seats aren't using stock rails, again, you will need a cert
QUOTE (4815162342 @ Oct 26 2009, 09:14 PM)
*extra muff
Assuming it's a aftermarket big bore, it might need to be removed and a quieter one installed if its too loud.
QUOTE (4815162342 @ Oct 26 2009, 09:14 PM)
*TOM'S:brake line
Might need to be replaced with stock rubber hoses if they are not up to NZ WOF Sae standards
It's all the small things you need to look out for and save for.
For example, if the tires are low, you will need to replace them, same for brake pads/discs etc.
If your importing, probably a whole load easier to bring in one that is stock or near stock to not have to worry about all the hidden costs.

Looks very nice, but at about 25k-ish, wouldn't you find a better deal in NZ?
Edit: Anyone know what bodykit that is? Looks great.

If you are prepared to pay around $24K have you looked at www.toyota.co.nz used cars signature cars altezza sedan
Most of these you can make an offer, well I have in the past.
You can get the car transported to a toyota dealer close to you
Three year warranty etc.
What do you get when you import ?

Just had a look, not many on there and unfortunately none i'm too keen on.
The three year warranty deal looks pretty nice though.
Heres another nice one. Have emailed an offer. Low km's too. Is it pretty safe to trust the speedometer or should I get some kind of checks done (i guess in Japan not NZ)
Year / Month 2003
Odometer 38,000 km
Displacement 2,000 cc
Steering Right
Transmission Manual
Fuel Gasoline/Petrol

*edit* err whats up with the side skirt
JTMILLER - October 27, 2009 02:15 AM (GMT)
Looks like the rear of it is loose, crash repairer should be able to fix it up pretty cheap
4815162342 - October 27, 2009 08:42 AM (GMT)
Well for the car above i have been advised that 14k including shipping is around the money they are after. Seems pretty cheap to me.

That price I gave you was a car cost estimate but your $14000 is around the right money.
We have auction sheets for all the vehicles we buy indicating the body, interior and mechanical condition and we will go and inspect auction cars for buyers once we have a deposit in the system.

You checking something like auto.vl.ru for the auction stats?
http://english.auto.vl.ru/auctions/toyota/altezza/
4815162342 - October 27, 2009 09:06 AM (GMT)
Nah i havent seen that site before. Site seems pretty hard to use though. What should i be looking for on that site exactly?
Cheers
greeneyes - October 27, 2009 11:24 AM (GMT)
It gathers the auction stats & shows details of the car, date of auction & price it went for.
A mark of 5/5 means it is factory-new in all aspects, and 4.5/5 means it is in excellent condition.
Those are the prices you exporter is paying at the japanese daily auctions, then adding his profit before selling to you.
So a 2004 RS200 with 40000Km and 4/5 condition went for US$15k, or about NZ$19500.
...and May 2001 is when the frame changed from GF to GH.

you have any luck with importing it mate?
how you coming along?
im thinking about importing too :o
4815162342 - November 7, 2009 09:18 AM (GMT)
Ive enquired and got some replies, shipping is about 2k, the prices are pretty good. i.e probably around 15k for a altezza with same bodykit as mine and less than 50k on the clock, thats manual as well.
Once ive paid off a couple of debts in a few months ill look actually getting one. Have to sell mine first.
EviLClouD - November 7, 2009 09:54 AM (GMT)
Hey, not sure if this will help you or not but check out www.carwebs.co.nz. They are based in Auckland, NZ.
They helped me import my altezza here (to Welly) and they did an excellent job and also at a great price. I could probably have saved a tiny bit of money but is it really worth the hassle?
NewZealanda - November 7, 2009 01:40 PM (GMT)
You have sparked new interest in me for a new Altezza! Good deals from overseas! And if the dollar keeps going up it will be pretty sweet but Ill hold on to mine for now and just save up a few 000's more
Actually I dont think there is anyway I could part with my Altezza so I'll have to get a second one :) Yay here comes another year of fulltime work!
Maccabro - November 7, 2009 06:19 PM (GMT)
japaneseusedcars.co.nz is a known and safer site to buy from as its is a nz company. id check them out. to be honest, i wish i had imported my own tezz......it wouldve been cheaper!!! but any "GH" model( late 01 up) of tezz you should be able to get on the road here, the "GF" models can only be imported for parts.
