Title: [closed] Cusco - Rear Trunk Bar
Description: New Zealand - $xxx.xx - Fortyone NZ
HOT2XS - October 26, 2009 05:45 AM (GMT)
Hey Guys & Girls
Wondering how many people would be interested in getting one of these? I have been told that they are very beneficial in firming up the rear end .... of the car :D At $105 New Zealand dollars (if that is correct), they are pretty cheap for Cusco. Obviously shipping would go on top of that. I haven't been in touch with these guys yet, and have never dealt with them. So hopefully they are easier to get hold of than some other overseas companies.
http://www.takakaira.co.jp/part.aspx?SubCa...b1-ca18c5830d1bAnyway, just a show of interest. Also has anyone ever dealt with this company before?
Cheers
** UPDATE **
Just heard back from Mac at FortyOne. He has offered these bars up at NZ$155 delivered to your door. Which would actually work out better that the original Japanese offer :D Cheers for the FortyOne idea alimac :D
Mac just came back with a price of $xxx.xx if there is 3 or more of us interested :D
So how many of you guys and girls are keen?
If you are keen, then Mac suggests getting the order through by the end of this week, as there is a 1-2 week wait as they still have to come from Japan and most brands are tied up with the Sema show in Vegas. Plus with Christmas looming, the closer it gets the harder it will be to get things shipped :)
Cheers

I might be keen as well, anybody any idea on how they compare to to the rear strut tower brace? A strut brace won't fit easily in my car bcoz of the sub.

GT4SUM - October 27, 2009 06:44 AM (GMT)
keen as, but need to know how much shipping is
mikeyde - October 27, 2009 06:51 AM (GMT)
Cheers for the link caveman :)
I had actually seen that before, I was looking at mine and it appears that the sub itself is going to be right in the path of the strut brace, I havn't actually put it in yet, I decided to add a base to it so that it was raised high enough to get to the spare without too much f@#king about.
It's an awesome idea though.
E910 - October 27, 2009 09:40 AM (GMT)
Could be keen pending shipping price etc.
HOT2XS - October 28, 2009 04:54 AM (GMT)
Well, I have tried contacting these guys through their off-line question system to find out how much shipping to New Zealand will cost. I haven't had any luck with that (keeps asking me to re-enter my name). So I have emailed their operators directly. Hopefully I get a response. Looks like parts of their site are under construction :-( Will let you guys know as soon as I hear back.

I have Cusco front and rear strut bars, which defintely stiffen up the handling. Also got TRD front and rear sway bars, which reduce body roll quite a bit compared to factory sway bars. Plus the under-car braces make the car even more rigid. These 'rear trunk bars' apparently stop the very back of the car from flexing when cornering :)

All sounds good to me.
I was wanting to get mine lowered (only about 30mm) but I've heard that just getting the springs done will stuff the stock shocks and I don't really want to spend $2-3000 on coil overs mostly bcoz I don't have $2-3000 right now lol.
So the strut braces and the trunk bar might be a more affordable way to improve the handling.

I have heard that adding after-market performance springs can reduce the life of factory shocks. Basically the factory shock can't handle the stiffer/lower spring. It can take a fair while for them to crap out though.
Yeah coil-overs aren't cheap. Plus the price of a cert makes them even dearer. Keep an eye out for a second-hand set (eg. TradeMe), as you can find some good deals.
Strut-bars, sway-bars, trunk-bars and other bracing definitely improve handling. I have added quite a few bars, and every time I add another one the handling changes :)
There are quite a few bars/braces for our cars, but getting hold of some of them here is not easy/cheap. When I saw these Cusco Rear Trunk Bars for NZ$104, I thought I would see if I could get hold of some ..... which is proving rather difficult :(
Will keep you guy/girls posted :)
HOT2XS - October 29, 2009 12:23 AM (GMT)
I have just tried again to contact the company in Japan regarding these bars, and can't even get through the check-out procedure. Does anyone have an idea of how I could contact them .... aside from flying to Japan and knocking on their door <_<
I have also contacted the company below about the same bar. Looks like they are getting their stock from Japan also (probably the same company I'm looking at), and charging twice the price. Anyway, I have just sent them an email to find out how much they charge for shipping to New Zealand.

Any peep is a good peep :) Will see what that American company comes back with, but I guarantee your price will be better than theirs if you guys do get the Cusco deal. Cheers Nick :D

Haven't tried him recently, but I doubt he could do the trunk bar for under NZ$120. Will give him a yell though. Cheers :)
HOT2XS - November 2, 2009 03:53 AM (GMT)
Well guys and girls. I haven't heard anything back from the Japanese company or the American one  I have emailed Mac at FortyOne to see what he can offer. Doubt it will be even close to what the Japanese company was offering though. Might be best to wait and see if North Shore Toyota gets the Cusco deal. Sorry to let you guys down :(
mikeyde - November 2, 2009 05:48 AM (GMT)
Oh hey you tried and tried and tried again lol which is good enough for me, cheers for the effort ;)

Stick with Michael Clarke as I'm very reluctant to deal with Cusco NZ after getting a good insight of their customer service recently, so Cusco is a no go for NST

Looks like you, me and Kinggts25. Will give it another day or so, and see who else is keen. We've got 3 though, so Mac will do them for $xxx.xx delivered.
Will get his details and get back to you guys. Probably just as easy for each of us to deposit the money into his account. Save you guys giving me the cash (who you don't really know) then me putting it into his account.
Also, I will PM you guys and anyone else that is interested and get your delivery address.
Keep you in the loop over the next couple of days.
Cheers
Stu

I'm still trying to convince myself I need one ;)
Was a bit unhappy with my handling whilst driving to Whitianga in the Coromandel over labour weekend but I put that down to taking the rear strut brace out to install the amp the weekend before. I do hate that flex I get sometimes in the rear when cornering hard. I had assumed a rear sway would help but after reading your comments maybe this cheaper option will be more effective?
JTMILLER - November 3, 2009 09:46 AM (GMT)
Don't suppose you could find out what shipping to Adelaide would be?
From the picture these things sit below the boot trim etc?

I will quote 'greeneyes' on this one, "rear sway bar is the best bang for your buck". But you are right, this bar will work out a fair bit cheaper than a sway-bar (front or rear). The rear trunk bar will firm up the back of the car, but aftermarket sway-bars keep the car level through corners.

I will give Mac a yell and see how much it is to Australia. Yep they do sit below the boot tray. I may look at bolting mine through the tray though (only two bolts). Haven't decided yet.
Soiled Altezza - November 4, 2009 08:19 AM (GMT)
I'll take one at that price... who do I give the money to?
HOT2XS - November 4, 2009 08:25 AM (GMT)
Those that are keen so far are:
1. Me (HOT2XS)
2. mikeyde
3. Kinggts25
4. GTS4SUM
5. Soiled Altezza
6. xnickx
7. 1337
The Cusco Rear Trunk Bar is said to make the back of the car a lot more stable through corners, and at NZ$xxx.xx delivered, it's well worth doing.
I am sure that Mac will be willing to order up these bars again in the future for those that are still thinking about it, or are a bit strapped for cash at the moment.
I would like to get the money into Macs accout by Friday so we can all gets these in the country well before the Christmas madness.
Will PM Macs details to you guys now :-)
mikeyde - November 4, 2009 08:42 AM (GMT)
Yeah I'm in, you missed Soiled Altezza off your list HOT2XS.
