Violin - Rui has been playing since he was two, while the lessons were not a pleasant memory, Rui still likes to play every now and then, his favourite composer is Bach, which most people find very strange.
The Beach - Rui has liked sitting on the beach, on on a rocky cliff, watching the waves crash against eachother ever since he first discovered the ocen. Most days, you can find him sitting alone at the beach, tuning out.
Sleeping - Although many see him as extremely shy and polite (which he is), a lot of the times he is half-asleep, and has no idea what's going on around him. Rui's all-time favourite past-time/hobbie would have to be sleeping. Curled up on the couch, layed out on the grassfield, whereever the place, Rui can always manage to sink into blissful sleep.
Artist: Jay Chow - Brought up on classical music, Rui was taught to view modern, pop music with disdain. However, ever since leaving home, Rui has become more familiar with pop, and although he does not find it in very good taste, Jay's songs seem to draw him in somehow, especially the song "Qi Li Xiang".
Colour: White - Not only is this his favourite colour, this is also the colour that seems to suit him the most. A colour that has plenty of sybolism, both good and bad, Rui often come across as a blank sheet, as he is often seen with an expressionless face.
Making coffee - Rui has a VERY hard time waking up in the morning, but the smell of coffee seems to help at times. Rui enjoys making coffee, as he believes the process to be thearaputic. The aroma of a good blend, he claims, can do a better job of waking a person up than the actual consumption of the concoction.
Reading - When it comes to books, Rui likes to read just about everything, his preferred genre, however, would be non-fictional texts, especially historical texts. Rui also cannot stand translated books, and has been known to learn a language simply to be able to understand a book in its native language. (Chinese - Sun Tze's Art of War)
Sunsets - Rui loves watching the sunset, especially watching it over the horizon. Off course, he would probably love sun-rises too, except for the fact that it is way too early in the morning for him to even contemplating waking up.
Summer - Rui loves the summer months, as it seems to be the perfect weather to be taking naps during the day. He also likes hot weather, and unlike most people, he is the most lively during summer months.
Dislikes:
Loud, Chatty girls - being a very quiet, and shy person himself, Rui finds that he simply does not know how to act around a loud, chatty person, especially if they happen to be female. However, this is not really a dislike, more of a discomfort around a certain type of people.
Colour: Blue - For some strange reason, Rui despises the colour blue, and will avoid it at all costs except when it is of a denim material. This can be partly due to his upbringing, where he was taught the usual 'blue is for boys, pink is for girls' (not that he likes pink much either mind you. n_n)
Working Out - Unlike most guys his age, Rui dislikes working out, like doing weights. He does, however, do a wide variety of physical activities, from jogging to playing basket ball.
TV - Rui dislikes watching TV, as he finds it to be very loud and irritating. Most of his classmates used to tease him about this, and would call him out-dated and traditional. Although, lately, Rui has been indulging in the odd documentary every now and then.
Cooking - Well... It is not that he dislikes cooking, it is more of the case where cooking seems to dislike him! Every time he has tried to make something, even something as simple as noodles, things have ended in disaster. Not as dramatic as the kitchen burning down or anything, but the noodles would either be as hard as cement, or a white, mushy puddle... Whenever possible, Rui tries to avoid the kitchen and eats out. Off course, he has been thinking about taking some cooking lessons...
Parties/large groups - Rui is extremely shy and will usually shy away from large groups, he can never find anything interesting to say, nor does he feel very welcome in a group anyway (that could just be his extreme self-cautiousness at work). Rui fairs better in one-on-one interactions, or small groups.
Winter - Rui's least favourite season, the only reason for this dislike being - it's too cold! Yes, Rui cannot stand the cold, and will dress himself in so many layers that he ends up looking like a snow ball in Winter, just to avoid been cold.
General Description
Personality
Rui can come off as been cold, aloof, unfriendly, basically does not seem to be a very approachable guy, however this is mostly due to his extreme shyness. Even when you do get to know him, most of the time it is impossible to tell what he's thinking, off course, this is probably because he isn't usually thinking, but not many people have realised this yet. Once you get to know him REALLY well, Rui becomes just as loud and out-going as the next person, and is also extremely loyal and caring. Regardless of how well you know this person, Rui can be a very good person to talk to about problems, because he will always seem to be listening, and we all know, that sometimes, that is all we really need.
Appearance:
Rui has short, messy, soft brown hair that always sticks out in random places after a good sleep/nap, and large brown eyes that seem to be blank, devoid of emotion. It is possible, from a slight twinkle in his eyes sometimes, to tell whether or not he is happy. Rui is quite tall, especially considering he is of Asian heritage, and has a very slight build from lack of working out, although he is quite toned. Rui prefers comfortable clothing, and can usually be seen wearing casual attire such as jeans, and long-sleeve tops. Rui is extremely sensitive to the cold, and is ALWAYS seen in long pants, regardless of the temperature.
History/Background:
Rui was born and raised in a small country village in Japan, around four hours from Kyoto. He was left with his grandparents at the age of one because his parents were too busy working in the city. His parents have lived in Tokyo most of their lives, and brought Rui to live with them when he was 10 years old. However, having grown up in a small village, Rui disliked big cities so much that his parents had no choice but to let him go back and live with his grandparents. A few years ago, his grandmother passed away, after a 6-year battle with cancer of the stomach, and his grandfather passed away in grief a few months later. Rui, not wanting to go back to the city to live with his parents, and remembering the childhood memories of Mint Village with his cousin Mako-chan, decided to settle there instead.
Family:
His parents, who live in the city (if you wanna take one on, you can make them come to the village!)
His oldest sister, 24 years old, a typical first child - total perfectionist, and the pride and joy of their parents. Currently working to take over the family business
His Older Sister, 21, kind of a rebel, had a fallout with their parents a few years back, and has never kept in contact since.
A distant cousin Makoto (not gender specific... PLEASE take him/her home n_n), who is the same year as him, and has lived in Mint Village for the longest time. If you decide to take him up you will get a free farm to go along with it!!!!!
