Title: Chasing The Scammers
Description: Tales from The Blue Moon Inn, Issue 1

Simayan - April 18, 2005 04:12 PM (GMT)
Issue One
April 17th, 2005

After walking through RS today, I realized that many interesting things happen. So with some of my free time, probably every Sunday, Ill post a new issue of this with stories and anicdotes from my RS life. Feel free to submit your own of you like to be included.

Please note, my SS picture taking thing has been acting screwy, so in this issue, I do not have any picture in the Zezima conversation or of the Cover Story. I hope to fix this soon.

Cover Sory: Chasing the Scammers

Whilst marketing in RS west bank last night, I noticed someone named Gods Pk3, who was level 47, randomly traded with me, and offered a type of logs along with some random stuff, (I cant remember their name, but they were the logs you use in Big Chomp Bird Hunting). Then, I was messaged by another fellow named Oujwells. He said he was buying those logs for 4.4 million gp.

Exited, I ran back to Gods Pk3, however, he said he would not sell lower than 200k. Then I saw the trap. One of the more clever RS hoaxes, one person sells for a lot, while another buys it for more. After the item is bought, both players log out. The problem is, you cant report people for doing it unless you have text proof.

So, I followed Gods Pk3 into the basement, with about 15 law runes, and enough of the elemental ones to tele to all of the f2p cities (Those were the only places he could teleport to with his magic level). Down there, both of them were talking, but when they saw me, Oujwells logged out, and Gods Pk teleported, his last words being, "Catch me if you can, little frooblett!" (Sounds like Carmen Sandiego, eh?).

So, it was a chase. I teleported 10 or more times before he finally ran to the wilderness, and I followed him. When we reached the border between the north gate and the wildy, he logged out, and oujwells logged in. He was level 77, however, he had nothing on. I was in my marketing suit (Tan cavalier, ammy of glory, gold gloves and boots, Saradomin cape from Castle wars, ring of wealth, and a tuxedo, lol), so I didnt stand much of a chance.

I called him a scammer in front of about 50 people, so he ran, and I followed. At about level 8 wildy, we fist fought. Unfortunatly, I hadn t recharged my prayer in a while, so I was forced to tele when we both had half of our healh left.

I ran back to the bank, and saw both of them run into the basement, again. Before I went down there however, I gathered about 15 people. We stormed the basement, saw them talking about how their scamming day went, and promptly reported both of them.

Whether Jagex decides to act off this, I do not know. But, I will do everything in my power ot stop scammers in Runescape, even if it means sacrificing my money and my time.

Side Story: A Close Encounter with a Legend

A few weeks back, I was trying to get away from the RS confusion for a while, so I went to my favorite spot, the top of the tower on Varrock's eastern Saradomin church. Right when I was about to leave, I saw Zezima pop up on the floor below that. Astonished, I said, "Hi", assuming his public chat was turned off. To my amazment, however, he replied with a "Hi". For the next 5 or so minutes we talked about pointless stuff, until I finally logged out cause of lag (stupid dial up). Probably a once in a RS lifetime experience...

Side Story: Look at the Kitty!

A few days ago, I was walking trough Draynor, when saw a misplaced yellow dot. Assuming it was an imp, I charged to kill it, but saw something different; Bob. He was trapped behind a tree, so I stood there, not letting him escape, lol. One noob gave me 2k to let him go. So, after taking a few pics, I left. Later that night, I saw him AGAIN in Catherby, inside the cooks house. I shut the door, took a few more pics, and let him go again. I havent seen him since, but suppose thats a good thing; I heard he takes screenshots of the players that wander past him...

Short Blurb: The Missing god

I recently read a guide to the gods in RS, and after poking through it, there is not one equal to Guthix! Saradomin has Armadyl, Zamorak has Zaros, but Guthix has nobody. Could this be uncovered soon? Jagex has promised ot reveal the mysteries of the gods this month, and with the release of the hardest quest yet today, we may be closer than we think.

Well, that about raps up this issue. See you next week with another not-so-exiting issue of Tales from the Blue Moon Inn. :drunk:

P.S. Why is the picture showing up as an x?
MOD Edit: Try saving it as jpg or something like that instead of png.

Yea good job on the scammers, I gotta say they were pretty retarded talking about their scammin on the chatbox instead of private. They must've been desperate to even think about scammin. I think it's an X because it's a broken link.

Scamming got better, very tricky. How long were you chasing the scammers?

Vibu212 - April 19, 2005 12:07 AM (GMT)
Scamming not only got tricky, it got smarter :)

rayblade777 - April 19, 2005 12:42 AM (GMT)
hmmm... I dont think that is scam though.... In my opinion scam is to deceive a person like 600mil turned to 600thousand when he automatically switches it. When someone sells a eye patch for like 1mil...that is not scam in my opinion. Now if he said "Selling "rare" eye patch, that is scam because he used rare. Merchant have the right to rip the other guy off or where is the profit. What they are doing is more evil but I think it is a scam.... I hate people who does that to me, but still I dont think it is a scam

Simayan - April 19, 2005 12:48 AM (GMT)
But, they were working together. They knew they were trying to decieve other members to gain an unfair advantage, and that is the definition of scammng.

I chased them for about 45 minutes. Now that I look back on it, it would make a pretty good RS movie, lol.

the bandits from the new quest follow the zaros. the new staff(from the bandits) has the symbol of zaros on it. there are known similarities in the text between the bandits and disgite. the bandits once ruled al of rs, and there was a 'fortress' that has once fallen. that fortress was most likely the digsite, which is known to have fallen, and was the base of their assualt.

QUOTE (from dictionary.com)

scam:To defraud

defraud:To take something from by fraud

fraud:A deception deliberately practiced in order to secure unfair or unlawful gain

looks like they are scamming... are they not gaining something form those 1m eye patch trades? is it unlawsful? *prepares more quotes*

QUOTE (from runescape.com)

You must not scam or deceive other players.

Lying to other players for your own personal gain is not in the spirit of the game.

QUOTE (from dictionary.com)
deceive:To cause to believe what is not true

most ppl buy and sell items wthin a certain range. 1m for an eyepatch is not wthin that range, and its not within the spirit of the game, which is the main goal that jagex has for these rules to create. in addition, some ppl would assume that the 'scammer' is actually a nice fellow rs player, and assume hes selling within such a range. and since they have made such an assumption, they are being decieved, thus a scam has taken place

Simayan - April 20, 2005 04:11 PM (GMT)
So, the digsite might be the place where "he" is? Or perhaps the Staff of Armadyl shall be re-released with the same type of attacks as the Zaros one...

Im Not Last - April 20, 2005 08:47 PM (GMT)
i c it possible...they probably used the same ancient magiks(thats how they spell it, lol) as the followers of zaros in the god war

Simayan - April 20, 2005 09:53 PM (GMT)
I see major things coming up in RS; possibly the death of Zamorak and the rise of Zaros.

You see, its only a matter of time. Zamorak hates Zaros, and vice versa. However, Saradomin and Armadyl get along quite well. I would find it amusing if they wiped out all chaos temples in RS, lol.

Wizzy19 - April 20, 2005 11:03 PM (GMT)
Well... seeing as im F2P... I dont really have a "favorite" god. But if i had to have on... Saradomin sounds cool.... But hey, a new god in the game would add some variaty :P

Nice story.

Guthix couldn't have exactly a other counterpart thingy. Zaros is pure evil(I beleive, f2p is hard to tell), so he isn't the exact same to Zamorak. I assume that something similar is with Saradomin and Armadyl(the fact that they aren't exactly the same that is). For Guthix, they can't be different, because Guthix is purely neutral. Also very powerful. More powerful then Saradomin and Zammy I beleive, though less then Zaros(and perhaps Armadyl). There couldn't be a counterpart, since they would be neutral to eachother and may conflit, where then it would not be balance. It's like a scale. Here's a cruddy diagram.

Armadyl Saradomin Guthix Zamorak Zaros
\_____\_______ | _____ /_____ /

Maybe Saradomin is more powerful then Armadyl, but my pioint is that Guthix equal couldn't really be placed anywhere, without changing everything and maknig them both evil and good and then a new neutral god.

Boy, that was long...

Simayan - April 21, 2005 12:58 AM (GMT)
You just went through a big example of circular reasoning I believe, lol.

But that would make it interesting; Guthix would actually have to care about something, lol.

But, how can Guthix be all powerful if he is neutral. That means he is more evil the Zaros, and more holy than Armadyl, which cancels out.

That leaves Guthix as an empty entity. So, in theory, he is nothing, and does not exist, for he is completly balanced. Complete balance = complete stability = complete nothingness.

(I think I may have found some new molecular-physics rule that proves nothing exists, lol.)
