"no good deed goes unpunished."“Don’t cross me on this Glinda! It’s my book, it belongs to me! Now tell me where it is!”
The green woman’s telltale eyes burned with fury as she yelled at the blonde opposite her. The other woman shook her head sadly.
“I told you Elphie. I don’t know where it is. Dorothy must have taken it to the Wizard or maybe someone came here whilst you were de—I mean, gone. Why did you feel you had to lie to me? Why did you leave without saying goodbye?”
The woman, Elphaba, turned away and looked defiantly at the floor.
“We had to go. The Wizard would never have let us live in peace. We came back for the Grimmerie and that’s it.”
“Things are different now, Elphaba. The Wizard’s changed everything. It’s not the same place you used to live in.”

How right those words were. The Wizard’s tyrannous rule has lost its subtlety and instead his laws are violently enforced by the Gale Force. All Animals are imprisoned in Southstairs and the few that have managed to escape or avoid capture are living in hiding. Many of the Animals have taken refuge with the tribes of the Vinkus and many more are hidden in the Great Gilliken Forest. They’re joined in Southstairs by those who refused to accept the Wizard’s rules (or his taxes). Those who’ve been identified as traitors have joined the Animals for their own safety, and taken their families with them. Who knows how far the Wizard might go to make his power felt.
And then Elphaba and Fiyero returned. At first, it was merely to recover the Grimmerie – but the Wizard had gone too far to let them return with an easy mind. Elphaba had never been one to let a matter like this slide and she soon reinstated herself in Kiamo Ko. Not long afterwards their return, Glinda tried to make amends and create peace but her apathy to the Wizard’s reign only infuriated Elphaba more. Without the Grimmerie, she couldn’t master new spells but what she does know is formidable and power has only grown. Whilst abroad she was able to return Fiyero to his natural state and now her magic stands as the only real protection from the Wizard.
In between searching for the Grimmerie and planning attacks on the Wizard, she must recruit members to her own secret army: the Burnt Harpies. The Harpies must spy on the Wizard and use the information gathered to attack the Wizard.
Despite her setbacks and the increasing madness of the Wizard, Elphaba is determined todefyGRAVITY.We're certainly not in Kansas anymore.
