He came from the darkness

Years ago Tom Marvolo Riddle disappeared from the wizarding world having last been seen working for Borgin & Burkes. His disappearance baffled no one in particular. Tom was a bright student and incredibly talented in many ways. His talents did not go unnoticed and he had plenty of 'friends' although in truth they were more like followers. He was Head Boy and the only half blood to enter the house of Slytherin in many years. Yet he was never the golden boy due to the rivalry between the houses. Neither was he Dumbledore's favourite student. In fact there was something about the boy that Albus Dumbledore mistrusted.

And then there were the mysterious Chamber of Secret monster attacks in the school resulting in the death of one Myrtle later to be known as Moaning Myrtle. Rubeus Hagrid got the blame and the mystery was shut down. But something lay beneath the surface waiting to be uncovered and Dumbledore knew that mystery would resurface one day. Anyway shortly after this fiasco and after Tom left Hogwarts he worked in Borgin and Burkes before applying for the Defence Against the Dark Arts teaching post at Hogwarts. Dumbledore had taken over and he refused Tom. Shortly after this Tom disappeared.

He's a monster

Instead rose a demon from the shadows. The devil of the wizarding world. The mysterious Dark Lord named Lord Voldemort. An anagram of his despised muggle name. This Dark Wizard came at a time when magical folk believed themselves to be free of war. He emerged from the shadows frightening those around him with his new found power and position. He presents a very great threat greater than that of even Grindelward.

And it scares people. It really does.

Yet there is still safety

Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, whilst is not immune to the fear of the wizarding world beyond the gates of the school, is safe and happy in their learning and their own social circles. This is a time where blood purity puts pressure on everything else. In the dark house of Slytherin not only does purity matter but wealth and position. The Blacks and Malfoys are rising up in society becoming competition for the Lestranges and the Dolohovs. It's all starting to come together.

In Gryffindor and the other houses seems the only shred of true happiness to dwell. In these houses who you are and what you make of yourself is the only thing that matters. If you've got the brains, the looks and the talent then that is what matters. Blood purity, money and position are nothing. And none are such an example of this as the Gryffindor mischief making group...the Marauders. James Potter, Sirius Black, Remus Lupin and Peter Pettigrew represent what is important to the wizarding world. Bellatrix Black, Lucius Malfoy, Rodolphus Lestrange and Severus Snape represent what really matters to the wizarding world. What side will you choose?
