[Name:] Temari Shizen.
[Nicknames:] Tema-chan [family]
[Age:] 16
[Gender:] Female.
[Species:] Sleeper.

[Description:]
Temari Shizen doesn’t particularly stand out in any crowd, but that doesn’t make her ugly by any means. Straight, ebony hair falls to just past shoulder length, usually tiled into two braids for school ended in white ribbons. Out of school, the style varies, mainly depending on the weather or Temari’s mood. Usually it will be left loose, or tied in many small braids with colourful bands when she has the time to fuss over it. (Which is seldom). Next are her eyes, chocolate brown in colour and surrounded by smoky lashes. Temari generally doesn’t wear make-up, which surprises people because her eyelashes seem to have a natural corkscrew curl to them. Her lips are typical Cupid’s bow shape, sometimes accentuated by a little clear lip-gloss.

The girl’s build looks… delicate to most, and some assume her to be younger than she is due to her lack of height and curves that come with becoming a teenager. Mostly she can blame her Asian heritage, mainly for her height of 5ft 1’. Her skin tone is fair, and her limbs look think enough to snap if too much pressure is applied. It’s true that Temari isn’t very strong, but her light build means she’s quite speedy if she wants to be. When it comes to dressing herself, she likes to take a fair bit of pride in her appearance. Her uniform is worn in a manner that most would describe as ‘prim’, always as straight and clean as she can keep it. She has a general dislike for feeling dirty, so that is part of the reason for her liking to look so orderly.

Out of school, Temari is a very casual dresser. She is extremely fond of her slouchy jeans and combats, usually kept about her waist with the aid of a belt. If she wears skirts, like in the spring or summer, she has to make sure that they are: A- not too fitting, and B- do not rise more than an inch above her knees. When it comes to clothing her upper half, in the winter she opts for chunky jumpers and polar necks. In the summer, it will either be loose gypsy tops in pastel shades or t-shirts of varying slogans, usually those of her favourite bands (Fall Out Boy at the minute).
[Personality:]
Petulant.
To most adult eyes, Temari Sohma would seem the typical petulant teenage girl. She’s sometimes rude, and will challenge almost any order given to her by teachers or the like. Her way of phrasing things comes across as extremely sarcastic, whether it’s intentional or not (which it usually is, nine times out of ten). Her bad attitude and style of dress tend to ward some people away, which in fact makes her slightly more sour. She has a slight potty mouth, and the swear words slip out sometimes without her meaning to. Temari has really come not to care much about other’s opinions outwardly, even if she will fret about them internally. To most she presents a very aloof image, along with the all male company she keeps and general mannerisms. And the single word to sum this all up? Teenager, quite simply.

Musical.
Yes, this is one thing that is certainly noticeable about this girl. She plays two instruments, the flute and guitar and though untrained in that area, her voice is quite pleasing to listen to with the right song. She holds a deep respect for other musicians and dancers to a certain extent, as they also have some understanding of the rhythm and careful way in which you have to listen to get the timing just right. Temari doesn’t just view music as a hobby either; she’s hoping to make a career of it. You’ll often see her on a crate outside a shop whose owner she’s friends with, busking with either of her instruments and sometimes vocals.

Hardworking.
Surprisingly, Temari is an extremely hard working student. Albeit her grades are pretty average, mainly Bs and one A in music (of course). Although she doesn’t particularly enjoy school, she’s not stupid and knows that slacking now will have a knock on effect on her future. She doesn’t make the fact she’s a good student well known, so many think her grades reflect her attitude and company kept. Temari is very meticulous about her work, no matter what the subject though she has her preferences. She prefers working on singular assignments, however, as she doesn’t particularly like placing the position of her GPA in someone else’s hands. If she screws up, at least it’s on her own head.

Pensive.
In her private moments, Temari is rather thoughtful. She’ll take the day’s shortcomings or high points and simply ponder over them, why they may have happened, how they could have been avoided and so forth. This also has a downside, as she has a tendency to nitpick every detail and scrutinize it to the limits. By doing so she digs herself into a mental rut: ‘Well, why did I do that…?’ and ‘I should have done…’ and so on. It’s not particularly healthy to think as deeply into every action as she does, but in the normal course of the day she is a very spontaneous person… that is part of the reason for her bad habit.

Stubborn.
This is a common trait among teenage girls, and Temari Sohma is no exception. Once she has made a conscious or subconscious decision she’s made, she will kick, scream, punch, swear and literally do anything to keep to that decision, whatever it may be. She’ll flip at someone who dares to challenge what she feels is set in stone, so it isn’t a recommended activity… for the sake of physical health. She’s decked one of her own friends more than once, and surprisingly remains friends with them. Temari is the kind of girl who apologises if she knows she’s in the wrong, no matter how grudgingly it’s done.

Loyal.
To quote Temari, “Those who desert their friends are worse than scum.” When you befriend this girl, chances are you’ll still be seeing her when you hit forty. She’s fiercely loyal to her friends and family, and no matter how many times they fight; she’ll try to make up. It’s just part of who she is; Temari needs other people around her to feel stable because nine times out of ten her emotions are her own worst enemy. They are at the best of times, quite extreme, and she needs friends to simply place a hand on her shoulder and tell her to calm down. In other words, her friends are her anchors. And Temari isn’t ashamed to say it.

[History:]
Temari was no ordinary baby.

She didn't cry at her first touch from the air in this world, as mostly all other babies do, as if she was happy with what the air felt like on her tender skin. Her eyes opened just moments after she was born, as if they couldn't wait to see what wonders the world held for her. Although she was not premature, she was a scrawny baby, as if the anticipation of seeing the world was too much for her limbs to develop enough. And even if she unusually tiny for a baby, she had no health problems; her monthly check-ups with the doctors for her first year of life always came out clear.

Anyone would have been able to tell that Temari was most definitely not ordinary.

Her mother and father [Sachiko Shizen and Taylor Cullen] met in a bar in Guam when they were both twenty-four years old; it was a year before Temari was born. Sachiko Shizen was a very passionate journalist; passionate enough to even trace a story she was working on back to its root ideas on a quaint island. Taylor Cullen was an aspiring doctor studying medicine in graduate school in Guam for a semester, and was American with a faint trace of Russian centuries back in his bloodline. Upon his return back to America, the would-be Dr. Cullen would graduate the following year and proceed to become a full-fledged doctor instead of the apprentice he was at the time.

For Sachiko Shizen and Taylor Cullen, it was love at first sight. Just a few days after they met, they agreed to travel to Japan together after his studies were completed and her article was published. Sure enough, they carried out their plan and returned to Japan. There, they were wed and on the night of their wedding, Temari was conceived. She was born nine months later, and was the happiest thing that ever happened in Sachiko's and Taylor's lives. They both kept their own last names, and agreed that if they had a son, his surname would be Cullen and if it were a girl, hers would be Shizen. They had just one daughter together, and named her Temari, after the art of Japanese ball weaving they both had a fondness for.

Ever since she was born, Temari was happy with the way things were going. She appreciated her life, her family, and everything she was blessed with. All in all, life was pretty good to her.

When she was four, her father was called back to America to operate on a patient that had requested him. His wife supported him, but did not go with him, as she wanted her daughter to grow up in the environment that she had, not in the cities of some country she had never been to. So Dr. Cullen left for America. Temari was still, however, happy with the way things had gone. She really admired her father, and wanted to be able to help people just as he did. She would have vowed to be a doctor right then and there, if she hadn't realized that being a doctor meant that if you made a mistake, that person might die. And she did not want to be able to decide if a person lived of died, so she settled to be a lawyer.

At the age of three, Temari’s mother had signed her up for flute lessons. She came to love music, and continued lessons for four more years, when her mother came to believe that there was nothing more those lessons could offer her. Temari, of course, let her mother do as she pleased. She stopped learning at the age of seven, but continued guitar and singing, which she had started when her father had left. Her mother tried to enrol her into lessons in a free give-away raffle for one lucky winner, but the man in charge of it had already cheated and snuck the winning ticket out of the box to give to his daughter so she could get the free lessons. Temari’s voice was soft, which gave her singing an ethereal effect, but everywhere she tried to get lessons, the manager would claim that her singing was only that nice because she was half-American. Temari decided that she would then just sing on her own and play on her own, and she reserved the two hobbies for her free time.

Dr. Cullen returned to Japan seven years after he had left; by that time, Temari was already ten. In the excitement of hearing the news, her mother left for the store to buy ingredients to make his favourite meal, saying she would return in just a few moments...

But she never came back.

Taylor Cullen returned to his house in Japan to find that his wife had been killed in a car accident. Temari started to have doubts about the 'perfect' world [as she had previously thought it was] she was living in.

After her mother died, Temari stopped singing and playing; it was just another painful reminder of the mother she had loved so much. In the same year, another catastrophe happened. As her father was on a plane back to America for another procedure he had to perform, his plane's engine failed and dived straight into the water. In just a matter of six months, the two most important people in Temari's life had vanished. Maybe it would have been too much for her to take, with the events in her life going downhill and all, but then she was taken into the custody of her aunt and uncle on her mother's side, who ironically lived in America.

Her aunt was a doctor and wasn't home much, and her uncle was a real estate agent that had way too much free time he could handle. She came to love them both very much, as they were both very kind to her. It was while she was climbing a tree in the park one day that she decided she would be happy again; it was what her parents would have wanted. She would tell herself over and over again, 'The worst has happened and is over with, so it can only get better from here.'

There was still, however, a glimmer of doubt in her heart that told her if she were to get close to someone, they would disappear, too, just like her mother and father had. It has been over six years since then, and that glimmer has never quite gone away. Still, Temari is moving on with life.
