Title: Gray/ Edgar Smith
Description: Demon!

Gray - July 18, 2007 10:00 PM (GMT)
I haven't seen any demons, so:

[Name:] Gray/Edgar Smith while disguised
[Nicknames:] The Hungry Puppeteer
[Age:] Physically appears in his late 20s/early 30s; Really 1783 years old.
[Gender:] Male
[Species:] Demon

[Description:] When disguised, Gray appears to others as a typical American guy. At 6'2", he weighs 175 pounds. His black hair, usually above his eyes and short on the neck, lays messily upon his sharp, diamond-shaped head, though occasional trims to keep it short and relatively tidy. His favorite feature is his beautiful almond shaped brown eyes, while his least favorite would be his hooked nose. His thin lips seem to develop a smile that can either be creepy or comforting, depending on his current mood. His body is fairly fit and muscled. Generally, Gray wears loose clothing, preferring a feeling of freedom rather than style. Because of this, he despises wearing suits, preferring to wear T-shirts and jeans/shorts (according to the temperature) whenever he is not forced into business attire by his gob. Of note is that Gray can change this appearance at will, though he usually tries to stay as close to this model as possible.

However, when shedding his disguise, his appearance dramatically changes. Black, feathered crow wings with a wing span of five feet grow from Gray's shoulder blades, with the rest of his body accommodating these new additions: his bones hollow out and his body burns fat faster than usual. However, even with these additions, Gray can not fly for extended periods of time without strain; usually, Gray uses these wings for short "jumps". His slightly-tanned skin toughens and discolors to the point of grayness. His muscle mass increases slightly. Fingers and toes lengthen as nails become wicked claws. His incisors grow slightly less than an inch, similar to a vampire. Gray's tongue gains the ability to lengthen approximately eight inches, though the practical applications of this are nigh. The part he hates most about this transformation is that his beautiful eyes completely disappear, instead being replaced with what most would see as glowing gashes of yellow light.

[Personality:]
Gray is a complex being. His social life is seen in his school disguise. Polite yet aloof, he distances himself from others due to the fact that any one of them could be his next meal. Calm and collected, he wears a poker face. Outbursts of emotion are rare, as he is one to bottle his feelings up. On the rare occasion that these emotions overflow, they do so explosively. The few friends he has are more of a big brother relationship than anything else, most likely due to his pride; he regards few people as above him or as an equal status. Calm and collected are two other words to describe the demon; Only in dire circumstances will Gray do anything on an impulse; he thinks of those that act without thinking as idiots. Any humor that Gray has is usually macabre and dark, though he is not one for cracking many cokes.

As one would expect, Gray is lonely. The only people he regularly comes in contact with are the troubled children wandering the street or visiting his office. Though seemingly paradoxical, he aids the children to the best of his abilities, almost as if he needs them be well for his own well being. Gray regards children as innocent, so conversely he sees most human adults and some teenagers as a waste, marking them down for a quick "feeding". One could say that helping these needy souls is the only thing that makes Gray happy.

However, this is far from describing the demon as compassionate. He is cruel to those he dislikes, often prioritizing their pain and agony rather than a quick kill. He regards many as inferior to him, looking at them for a quick "feeding". Gray sees Guardians as more of a fact of life than anything else: to be avoided or killed. Because of this, he doesn't necessarily hate the Guardians, but regards them as obstacles in his life.

Though he feels a small bond of companionship towards fellow demons, he judges them as a human would judge another. He looks down on those weaker demons with little intellect, preferring to associate with those of his own "class". Though he prefers working alone, he will accept the help of another demon if forced to.

There are very few things that sadden Gray. One of those things is the "falling" of a being into despair or hopelessness, which is one reason why his work brings him joy.

The consumed personality of Edgar Smith rarely surfaces. A knowledgeable recluse, his personality is usually too weak to control Gray, though the demon considers his personality a necessary annoyance to integrate himself into society and to perform his job. However, Edgar also has a great love of children and a strong sense of justice, leading Gray to kill those he believes are unfit to live.

[Powers:]
Consumption - Gray can increase/replenish his spiritual energy slightly by eating those with spirit energy. He can eat beings that are either alive or dead. Alive beings bring him exponentially more spirit energy, but also results in the absorption of their consciousness, effectively incorporating their personality. The process is not like literally digesting a being, but instead more like a slow vanishing of the consumed person while in contact with Gray. Though spiritual energy is recovered by Gray over time, the process is usually very slow, making Consumption the preferred method of recovery. After initially consuming a being, their spiritual energy is slowly added to yours, though only a small fraction of their energy is added when the victim is dead.

Spiritual Sense - Gray has the ability to sense those with spiritual energy. Though this ability usually only works while in his true form, when fully concentrated he can sense things while disguised. This ability works for up to half a mile, and is always "active" while in his demonic form. The higher an individual's spirit energy is, the easier he or she is to sense, making regular humans and some sleepers almost impossible to "see".

Demon Dolls - One of Gray's favorite techniques, he may permanently mold any amount of spiritual energy to make a being of spiritual energy. He can give them a form to make them appear as a human or even a Guardian, and they are directly manipulated by the demon. Gray can see through their eyes and detonate them at will, as they are made of his spirit energy. Generally, due to the large amount of direction required by Gray, only a few can be made at a time, and to actively control them Gray needs to devote his full concentration to them, disabling him from doing anything himself. Spiritual energy spent on these dolls is irrecoverable except by consumption.

Bolt - A bolt of energy that can be emitted through any of Gray's limbs or his mouth. A medium-high power attack, it can be transmitted through objects that Gray is touching (For example, it can be shot out through a glove or through a wall that Gray is touching). Energy expended on Bolt is permanently expended. Bolt gives a blunt impact.

[Extra:] Gray can only use a degree of his abilities while disguised, as he is suppressing his spiritual energy.

[History:]
Gray, as most demons, was born in the Demon World. Even he doesn't know, or care, about his lineage; he was supposedly first discovered in the aftermath of a bloody battle. A Demon Warlord discovered the child, and having no heir of his own, positioned the child, now christened Gray, as the next of his line, to prevent feuds over who would take his position after his death. Raised as an heir to a Warlord, Gray developed a sense of great superiority, as his adoptive father, though not necessarily caring, would not let a threat to his heir exist. Things kept this way until a rebellion occurred, during which the Warlord was beheaded. Knowing that he would be next in line for death, Gray consumed his father and fled through the barrier, which he was weak enough to pass through at the time.

Arriving at Santa Cruz, Gray was at a loss at what to do next. Shadowing others, he learned about human culture and society. After scouting out many people that he could potentially replace, Gray decided on Edgar Smith. After observing him for months, the demon found that the reclusive man held a perfect lifestyle for him; as a wealthy psychiatrist, Gray could afford much of what he wanted. As an adolescent psychiatrist, the demon practically had food being served to him. In addition, Edgar had few relatives that kept in touch, as is parents died in a car accident. Gray broke into his home, held him down, and consumed the man alive, adding his personality into his own.

Things did not go as planned afterwards. He found himself drawn to those that needed his help as a psychiatrist, arising from a want to be needed. He genuinely cared about his patients. Then, as he grew and his feeding became more constant, he alerted a nearby Guardian. A vicious fight ensued, ending with injuries on both sides and a retreat facilitated by Gray. This not only alerted the Guardians to his presence, but as Gray's pride was injured, he seeks vengeance against that person. (Feel free to have your Guardian be that adversary; just PM me first.)

His identity not yet revealed, Gray is nevertheless cautious.

About his structure when gaining his wings, as it is a known fact that birds can fly due to their hollow bone structure and compacted bodies....would these also imply towards Gray's body or is his different?

Changed.
